Do we believe this? We turned Turan down to buy Fellaini?

Seen a few reports saying we almost had Turan last season and even a few (very unreliable ones) linking us with him now.

How the hell Fellaini would have anything to do with it is beyond me, they're totally different players who play in totally different positions.

Two completely different players who play in completely different positions. I don't really think we were interested in a wide man last summer, we had decent options and Adnan and Zaha were still to be tested. Nani had just signed a new contract, we had Valencia and Young (I know), and had several other options out wide.

A Turkish journalist states that we agreed a deal on Arda Turan (a winger) but pulled the plug to get Fellaini (a midfielder). Interestingly, there were no strong reports at the time linking us with Arda Turan, yet he knew so much about what was happening with him?

Strange, this...

We possibly had Turan lined up, along with Garay and Thiago, and Moyes vetoed him as well. Signing Fellaini is irrelevant, obviously.

Yeahis makes sense. We probably had some signings lined up but moyes felt they weren't the sort of players he needed to move the club forward. Nothing wrong in that since it was him that was going to work with them anyways. Sadly, his plans were all wrong.

The Express have written so much bullshit so far this year. They have linked us with about 10 players.

Moyes logic dictates that this is highly likely to have happened.

Absolutely not. Why would signing a central midfielder have an effect on us signing a winger? The only logical reason for that, would be the club having limited funds last summer. If that's the case however, we wouldn't have spent the whole summer pursuing Fabregas among others.

I thought this story originally came from a tweet with quotes that were proven to be fake?

But hey, any excuse for a good rant.

even if it was true, which i doubt, it's still an utterly pointless article.

Hes not a winger

I'd say yes to be honest as Moyes was so cloud cuckoo most of the time. He probably had only seen him play 100 times which is just not enough for Moyes to conclude whether good enough or not.
As for Fellaini that was so last minute which suggests he was always the fall back option of a major signing.

Hes not a winger

I have seen him play as a winger.

But yes, I'd agree, for Atletico he certainly hasn't been what United mean by a winger. Like Koke, he's mostly played a kind of wide midfield role. An attacking midfielder certainly but not a chalk on his boots sort of winger.

So while the "he's not like Fellaini" comments are fair, if we've still got Fellaini under the heading "defensive midfield" or even "midfield two" - but if we're talking about Fellaini as a box to box player or (please no) as an an attacking midfielder, Turan's certainly an interesting player.

Moyes said he wanted a midfielder who could also score goals as well as create, to me that sounds like he was after an attacking midfielder, we ended up with Fellaini.

Nothing surprises me regarding our transfer business last summer.

It all started from a fake Turan quote. There's no truth to it.

I can fully believe it, we've barely done a single thing right since Ferguson left. Januzaj coming through and getting a new contract is practically it, although I've enjoyed a few moments of magic from Mata I'm still concerned that we've helped to fund Chelsea building an excellent team and ultimately we've probably ensured that they'll finish ahead of us for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to imagine that transfer deadline day as drunk sex with a fat girl. Never happened.

It sounds like we'd agreed deals with every good player out there only to not sign them at all or to sign the ones with lesser ability.

Interesting how some fans are more willing to believe the express' cheap when it suits their agenda, than when they are claiming we are about to sign half the German national team.

The express are garbage, Turan doesn't even play in midfield so yes I would have preferred us to sign Fellaini as we were far more in need of a midfielder than a winger.
