Thought about this. We haven’t been around for that long but I would still class Zel and Tooney as United legends. Millie is close to that too, but in terms of quality she’s a level below the two, in my opinion. Thoughts, other suggestions?
To me, who dreamed of a team when we had U17’s sendt to Liverpool to ply their trade, all of the first squad almoat counts as legends. Casey Stoney without a doubt. Katie Zelem and Ella Tooney yea, obviousley. And Leah Galton mos def. But also Siobhan Chamberlain in goal Millie and Amy Turner, Kirsty Hanson and Molly Green. Top scorer Jess Sigsworth (18 goals). Charlie ‘The Devil’ Devlin. Kirsty Smith and Martha Harris on the full backs. Lauren James and Alex Greenwood sits a bit harder, moving to Chelsea and Man City so early on, but they were stars that first season. Lizzie Arnot. That whole team are legends to me. Even Lucy Roberts, who didn’t play a game but was the great grand child of Charlie ‘The Ghost’ Roberts. And Emily Ramsey and Fran Bentley who didn’t get to play much, but who had played for the United youths and came straight back upon hearing we got a team going. It’s the stuff of legends.
After that, Mary Earps, Jackie Groenen, Hayley Ladd, Hannah Blundell has made deep impressions. Ona Batlle I won’t forget, and Maya Le Tissier has made a great start.
But Casey Stoney, Millie Turner, Katie Zelem, Ella Toone, Leah Galton if I’ve got to pick five, should have a statue outside New Trafford right along Charlton, Law and Best. If we are talking about historical events here.
Legends then? Ella Toone has got to be number one for me because she's been there for it all. Her story is the team's story and the United fan dream. A United fan, a local, trained by United. Had to leave us because we had no women's team. Came back as soon as we had a team. Was there for our first trophies. Was there to see her face on the posters outside OT. Scorer of big goals - especially at Wembley. Legend stuff.
Maybe it's just her penchant for late goals of the bench, but I would equate Williams more along the lines of Solskjaer!Toone, Zelem and Galton I can get behind.
Russo and Earps can go feck themselves - ultimately believed they were better than our club. Similar vibes to CR7 for the men.
I’d give a shout out to Rachel Williams too, although I wonder with her super sub antics whether she is more of a cult hero ala Forlan than a full on club legend?
Good comparison!Maybe it's just her penchant for late goals of the bench, but I would equate Williams more along the lines of Solskjaer!
