Do England have the best set of penalty takers around?

I honestly can't remember a penalty shoot-out that I was invested in where I had no worries about anyone scoring.

Palmer
Bellingham
Saka
Toney
TAA

Then you also have Kane obviously, and Eze takes pens too.

If we're truly embracing Southgate boring football, we should probably just play for penalties at this point.

France took some amazing ones the other night without Mbappe and Greizmann on the field.

It's been clear for a while now that England have stopped the odd mentality of just explaining away losses with "it's a lottery" and actually looked at things that were going wrong and correcting it.

Biggest difference compared to 90s and 2000s is most players used to charge towards the ball as soon as the ref blew his whistle and so if a keeper went early it was easily saveable.

Now they're taking their time, doing the stutter that most players do and just rolling it to the opposite side when he dives.

Only issue to me is having a penalty shoot out to actually win a trophy again but in other rounds I'm not worried at all given Pickford is sort of keeper who'll usually save at least one attempt from opposition aswell.

If England get to the final I’ll be having a few quid they win on pens

This has been brought up often the past 24 hours or so.... but there's nothing to suggest this is a difference directly for the better, as the conversion in international tournaments in the 90's for instance - was better. (The 2022 WC is amongst the lowest conversion rate for WC, 2021 Copa is for Copa, and 2020 for Euros) - on a tournament basis, it also doesn't help that the sample sizes obviously massively vary.

Analysing penalties is an absolute minefield to me and it never really amounts to much other than, well, there is clearly a big of element of luck involved, but confidence in knowing you are going to win them, doesn't hurt... even when you don't actually win them after that confidence

The tournament records wikis for penalties specifically bring up some crazy stuff to me. France have only ever missed 2 pens in the Euros, yet have lost 2 of 4 shootouts. Whereas Italy have an overall dogturd record (29 out of 41 in total) yet are 4-3.

Impressive set of penalty takers
