Eric Djemba-Djemba has travelled to England to reportedly hold talks over a free transfer move to West Bromwich Albion.

The Cameroon midfielder currently plays for Odense, but has been given permission to miss the Danish club's game against Randers on Monday night.

Though Odense refused to confirm the exact reason for the 29-year-old sitting out the Randers encounter, reports in Denmark claim he has been allowed to discuss a return to the Premier League.

Odense coach Lars Olsen said: "Eric will not be involved (against Randers) because we have allowed him to travel abroad.

"It is for personal reasons which we cannot say more about."

Djemba-Djemba previously endured a frustrating time in English football after joining Manchester United in 2003 from French club Nantes.

He made 39 appearances for United before joining Aston Villa in 2005, but again struggled to make an impression in the Premier League.

After a loan spell with Burnley, and a stint in Qatar, Djemba-Djemba joined Odense two years ago, but could now seal a move to top-flight new boys West Brom.

Mark your calenders, gentlemen. October 16th - the return of King Eric II to Old Trafford.

Would be nice to see him back in the PL if only to remind us how bad he was.

Be disappointed if he came back and played against us.

A real fans favourite.

Might have fixed his career á lá Kleberson.
According to him his off field problems messed up his career. He claimed during his time at United he was living on salary advances, amongst other things. His head and character were allegedly were not in the right place for him to succeed till a 2 years back.

I think this could actually outdo David Beckham/AC Milan in terms of legendary returns.

Just imagine if Djembax2 donned a G&G scarf.

Dunno how he's been, but according to Chris Lepowski (journalist who covers West Brom) "there has been an outcry among Odense fans at the potential sale of Eric Djemba-Djemba"

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed his interest in signing former Manchester United and Aston Villa midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Djemba-Djemba failed at Aston Villa after failing at Man Utd.

Djemba-Djemba, who plays for Odense in Denmark, has held talks with the Baggies and watched them in action during their friendly clash at Doncaster. Di Matteo will hope the midfielder can make a bigger impact than at Old Trafford and Villa Park where he made only a limited number of first-team appearances.

''Eric has come over to talk to us but we haven't got anything to announce yet,'' he said. ''It's ongoing and we hope there will be a resolution soon. He's had a good couple of years in Denmark.

''We are looking for players who have experience in the highest leagues whether it is England, Germany, Spain, Denmark or Switzerland.''

Di Matteo is aware that he has to bring in more new blood before the season starts and a striker is a priority. Roman Bednar, Luke Moore and Simon Cox are all struggling for fitness and a bid to sign Liverpool's David N'Gog on loan looks to have failed.

Di Matteo said: ''It is a big concern to us at the moment. We are working on things but it's difficult. Everyone is after a striker. I've been saying since the end of last season that we need more players.''

Ishmael Miller is the only experienced fit striker at present and Di Matteo has been linked with moves for Stoke's James Beattie and PSV Eindhoven's Marcus Berg.

He was the one who did really well in the u21s recently, wasn't he? He'd be a good signing.

I've been saying to my dad (a Baggies fan) for a while that they could do with somebody who knows how to score. Cox was only good at League 1 level, Moore and Miller make Heskey look like Van Nistelrooy, and Bednar's more of a second striker. Then there's that Haber, who I'm not entirely sure actually exists.

They've done well in signing a few defenders (Reid, Tamas, Ibanez), and clearing up some of the wage budget by releasing Koren (they have a few similar players in Teixera, Morrison and Dorrans).

What they want to look at now is strengthening the defensive side of midfield, which is where Djemba-Djemba would have come in, had he not been too broken. They already have Mulumbu, who I think is a great player, and possibly Jara to fill that role. I think Jara's more suited to being a fullback though, so it'd be nice to have support for Mulumbu.

Bit of a coincidence that they both failed the medical.

Hasn't he been loaned to PSV by Hamburg for the coming season?

A cruel bump. I saw the thread title, and thought he was coming back to the Prem :(.
