From the beginning of the season, apart from Europe, and a few scattered performances, the worst thing was watching a Manchester United team that was disjointed, missing chances, and though pretty good defensively, making the odd error which resulted in the loss of two points, in some cases three.

The first thought was that we aren't going to win anything this year - and then that became irrelevant to me and all I wanted was to see them playing the type of football we associate with the club.

After the City game there were two schools of thought - that the shock to their systems would spur them into some kind of action resembling football, or that their confidence would have taken such a battering that those players would never again function as a team.

A few weeks later and we have an almost surreal situation.

BARTHEZ is making Schmeichel type saves and must have inspired confidence in his defenders

O'SHEA is some kind of superhuman player who seems to be playing his way successfully through every position.

SILVESTRE has finally got his wish and is playing as a centre-back, and is probably biting his tongue whilst longing to say "Told you so....."

BROWN has come back from injury with a confidence that seemed to have deserted him, and is now inspiring confidence in not just the rest of the team, but in us as well.

GARY NEVILLE has banished the demons from the City game and took on Liverpool like a man possessed

PHIL NEVILLE did the same to Arsenal

DIEGO FORLAN who couldn't apparently couldn't score in a brothel, suddenly scores against Villa and Southampton - and then two against Liverpool!

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is showing David Beckham how to be a right winger

PAUL SCHOLES is just doing what Paul Scholes does best, and has decided he'll do it from deep or behind Ruud, he doesn't much care which.

SEBA VERON has decided to play the English style and is getting stuck in and moving twice as fast as he ever has before

RUUD has recovered from injury and a slowish (by his standards) start, and looks like he's enjoying playing football again.

GIGGSY tried taking on defenders and crossing the ball last night and looked a whole lot better for it.

FORTUNE plays in central midfield and becomes more of a hero in a few games than in the rest of his time here.

And KEANO says he's coming back wiser.

On top of that, in the past three weeks we've beaten Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Deportivo.

If this was Dream Team or Roy of the Rovers, you'd say it was unrealistic.

:D

We should try O'Shea as a striker. ;) No, seriously, I think this boy can do it all and with class. Until given the chance, and he proves me wrong, I will believe that. His howler of a miss against Manchester City, aside :)

Exactly the phrase I used to day, Livvie.

Everything I've been moaning about for two years :

- lack of bite in midfield
- disorganised defence
- young players stagnating
- stale tactics

Sorted. Just like that. Magic ! :D

nice 1 livvie...

I think we're all on cloud 9 at the mo... especially after last season and they way started this... the worst start we have ever made to a premier league season...

But I think theres 1 person u missed out who deserves more credit than any of the 1s u mentioned...

The big boss Sir Alex... time and again hes proved that when questions are posed he comes up with the answers...

Surely another reason hes considered the greatest manager who ever lived...

is O'shea the new Keano???, Keane began playing numerous positions (striker-defender now and then), then settled for the in-between position DM.

He's also sorted out the academy and reserves, bringing in a new Dutch kids coach, Filho the Brazilian with 29 years experience at Clarefontane to coach the U17's, and Sbragia who had won the reserves title for 2 years running with Sunderland, and moving the successful reserves' coach McClair to the U19's, and brought in Quieroz to Coach the first team and promoted Mike Phelan recently to assist too. A great legacy put in place, and a much needed and called for revamp.

We've also formed partnerships with feeder clubs like Antwerp and are forming one's with Nantes and Sporting Lisbon, giving our youngsters good loan experience and an option to get players like Quaresma and Djema.

He also gave the players the needed kick up the arse after the City game and let it be known that he might sell some of them, and he may well carry out that threat and many of them are now playing like they're trying to stay. I just hope they can keep this desire, even against the lower sides, and for the next few years.

All I wanted was to see them playing the type of football we associate with the club.

Here here mate! I'd rather be Second than Boring (Note to Scousers) and now we are getting great football and great results to match!

After spending most of the first part of this season feeling like there were 11 players impersonating my team on the pitch every week, I left the Newcastle match feeling like I had finally gotten my team back. I wasn't sure afterwards if it was a one-off and if it was going to mean anything longer-term. But in footballing terms, these last couple of weeks is as close as you get to feeling like "you've died and gone to heaven" without actually winning anything.

And the players...

BARTHEZ - back to his best.

O'SHEA - Is there any position he can't play? Love his mental toughness, his no-nonsense attitude and his willingness to do anything asked of him to contribute to the cause.

MICKEY - Always thought his lack of concentration would be a liability as a centre-back. Love how he has proved doubters like me wrong!

WES - Showing the potential we all saw from him a couple of years ago. Now, let's hope he stays injury-free.

GARY - I'll never forget the heart he showed in that Liverpool match. He had a point to prove and I think he exorcised a few ghosts that day.

PHIL - Who'd guess that he'd take on Patrick Vieira and emerge the winner? Like Gary against Liverpool, I think he exorcised a few ghosts of his own that day.

DIEGO - They're not laughing at him anymore, are they?

OLE - Never lets you down. And it's taken a striker playing out of position to remind us how important it is to put those crosses in.

SCHOLESY - has stepped forward and taken control/responsibility for that midfield. Does everything and anything that needs to be done in that wonderfully unassuming way of his.

SEBA - have to admit I'd just about given up on him. Watched him last night running around like a man possessed putting in tackles, chasing every ball down. Could hardly believe this was the same player I'd been watching for over a year. Hopefully, this is only the beginning of much more to come from him.

RUUD - Was afraid that playing as a lone striker would wear him down physically and mentally and that he'd just get fed up with it all. But like you say, it looks like he's enjoying his football again which is so good to see. And as we've seen these past few weeks, if we just give him a bit of service and a bit of support up front, he'll score those goals for us.

It's a dream i hope will never end!! <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

I think it is the most crucial point. He pointed out that he would be going to rebuild the team, which was a clear indication to every players that they couldn't take anything for granted. And now even some second string players are doing so well, the competivity made by them will also inspire Becks, Rio and Keano to regain their best form in order to get back into the team. This competition in the team can only benefit us in long term.
