I know he had a part to play in the goal but after that what was he doing on the pitch?

I could hear the commentators (well Ron Atkinson) saying what a great player who is so influencial. I mean come one, his passing was pretty much non-existent, which is also true for Wes Brown.
He made some really great tackles in last nights game and I felt proud of him but then he goes and spoils himself by threading the ball to a Bayer player.
It just makes you feel so frustrated and I did not enjoy the game after that.

How people have changed. Garry Birtles never got this kind of support.....

I'm sorry True Treble, am I not allowed to air my opinion.
Are you trying to make a point that Veron played great? Were we not watching the same game.
I have always had my doubts about Veron this season. I agree he is a good player, but he hasn't performed consistently enough for me. Give him a couple of seasons and yes, he will probably be a hero but until then I will be left wanting.

Veron should stay - don't have a problem with that. But he shouldn't play unless he's in form. There shouldn't be one rule for him and one for everyone else.

But would he be happy with 3 starts per season?

;)

Probably not. But if he settles and plays well he'll deserve more. But if he doesn't, he won't.

Seems simple to me.

28,000,000 for a bench player?

It doesn't seem right does it?

Well if it's not, these stupid big money transfers should stop. You can't play a player just because they cost a fortune.

If Michael Stewart is performing better than Veron, then Michael Stewart should play. And vice-versa.

I totally agree..

But when a manager spends a fortune on one player there will be certain pressures....the board will expect him to be a significant member of the side..

If you do spend that much cash you should already know how to fit the player in etc..

It would be nice to have a squad where you can have such an expensive and talented player sitting on the bench. Imagine the look on the opposition faces when you can bring on the likes of Veron (when he's playing well), Beckham and Keane. To be able to do that would be incredible.

Always next season eh?

But you can't ever know how a player will fit in until he plays. So the board will have to understand that it's a squad game now. And so will the players.

The board don't have to do anything...

Such expenditure on a bench player is likely to influence the regarding future sanctioning of such large transfer fees..

I hope the fee issue is sorted. You can bet that there will be some massive signings after the world cup!

If they want the best they have to gamble, but they have to allow the manager to manage, and if a multi-million pound player isn't performing, he should get a run in the reserves or whatever.

It's the only way to keep a squad happy. How demoralising is it for a player who is playing well and who could be important to the team, to be kept out just because someone else cost a lot of money.

Yes Veron played. He was the one who decided to play central defence for the last 10 minutes, leaving the play-making responsibilities to Laurent Blanc.

Blanc is a good point of reference for Veron. Larry has been tremendous, totally committed, and well-underrated.

Veron is exactly the opposite. He had us excited with two performances this season -- against Everton and Deportivo.

But with ten minutes to go, desparate to score, do you want the man bought "to unlock european defences" (Fergie) to go hide at centre back?

Not when he was so shit at doing so.
