Genius comes at a price!

He would be fantastic for us. Can't wait. I'd say it's almost definate that he will be in a red shirt in Jan.

I'd love to see Di Canio in a red shirt. It's just a pity we didn't get him 5 years ago - but how and ever

agreed, better late than ever. Once he didnt sign last season i said forget him but i still reckon we can get 1.5 good seasons out of him.

If he comes in and is merely a short term fix then why not actually. I guess the money isn't available for a large bid which rules out Schevchenko, Cisse et al. But by making a comparitively small outlay for a non cup tied player, we would then be in a strong position to make a large bid in the close season. I could see DiCanio coming in and rotating with RVN and OGS with Forlan relegated to 4th striker. Forlan would then have a year in no mans land next season if we make a big summer signing as DiCanio would surely be offered a 1.5 yr deal. What happens to Diego though? How might it affect him as he'd get less playing time than he does already and for another year at that.

But overall, I'm warming to this idea.

I've no problem with short term, money obviously isn't available for long term at moment.

PDC with his spirit will be a good injection into the team, imagine this guy comes on a free and shows as much passion as Keano, what message will that send to every one else.

I bet he would be good for the young players in training, help them like Canatona did.

Short term fix etc.....agreed but perhaps that is exactly what we need for the next 18 mnths or so.....get him on that basis & no problem IMO

Agreed. Though one would hope that signing PDC now wouldn't prevent us from signing a more long term solution in the summer.

I hope MU can bring in Di Canio. Though he's a veteran considering he's above 30, he still got the pace and his shooting skill is fantastic. I wish SAF could sign him for two seasons. Moreover he is not cup-tied. As in the other post, I gave a view that MU should buy a young striker, not necessarily 'World Class Player' but I do personally think that Di Canio fits the empty slot for our 4th striker. He's somebody like Sheringham (experienced and highly skilful), who had two fantastic seasons with us. :)

Im all for it as long as we can get another younger superstar in addition in the summer, Cisse would be nice, Totti would be good, not sure about Shevchenko though.

Fergie says DiCanio isn't going to be the one.

I still wouldn't totally discount it though. Maybe talking the price down.

Lets roll the dice here. He wouldnt cost more than a million and could have a huge impact on your Prem form. We must go for him if we dont go for any bigger names. If he wants a two-year contract, give it to him, we've been missing a player of his sort for years.

We need to buy someone to build a long term partnership with RUUD

Should we? How many long term strike partnerships work?

Thats why I said "we must go for him if we dont go for any bigger names"

Looks like the boss agree's with me...

Ferguson said: "He is a great player, he really is. I wish we could have brought him here last January when we wanted him.

"But a year on, it doesn't have the same attraction."

Did you hear JFH on the Premiership - he said he was happy at Chelsea but you just never knew in football - talk about leaving the door open.

He wouldnt be long term either but he's still a class finisher.

Yeah, Jimmy Floyd was definitely leaving his options open and he always bloody scores at OT... it really depends on who else is available and how much money Fergies been given. I think Paulo would have been a hit at OT and it would have given us the hear the Paulo di Canio song all around the stadium rather than just at the bleeding Hammers end... but the boss knows best!

Certainly is.

He'd finish off any class we have left that's for sure.

Whinger.

Excellently put Liv. Baffles me that some would turn down Dicanio but opt for JFH. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />
