About time we did this again as there are lots of new posters and some old ones have gone so we should get some new views.

Based on the BBC radio 4 idea (longest running radio programme ever); imagine your stranded on a desert island and you could choose 8 pieces of music you can take with you. Remember you have to cater for all your moods and the ability to listen to them over and over again.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread (even though it seemingly died a death :nervous:) as someone asked me this question today and here is what I came up with...

8 Records

1) Heroin - The Velvet Underground & Nico - Absolutely epic track, I like the way Lou Reed takes the approach of explaining the appeal of something so looked down on.

2) The End - The Doors - It's probably not even my favourite track by Morrison & co. But I've chose it as while some Doors songs grow on me, then I'm off them this one has always stuck with me as a great track. Plus It's length makes it a tactical selection.

3) I Am The Walrus - The Beatles - This track just makes me laugh, but is also absolute genius! I am the Eggman!

4) I Am The Resurrection - The Stone Roses - Had to choose between this So young and waterfall for my favourite, plumped with this classic.

5) Running to stand still - U2 - Okay the band gets some stick, but this track is a brilliant ballad about depraved areas of Dublin turning to drugs, truly poetic lyrics.

6) All Along the Watchtower - Hendrix - Just has to be there.

7) Autumn (Four Seasons) - Vivaldi - Some Classical Music is required for Diversity, and this is my fave.

8) Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash - I love Cash and this track would be a must.

Book

- I'd bring Ulysses by James Joyce (I have a lot of time, may aswell give it a go)

Item

- A football definitely.

This is tough becaue it's not albums, just single tracks. I went for a bit of everything.

Teenage Kicks by the Undertones

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys

Kasmir by Led Zepplin

You Can't Always Get What you Want by the Rolling Stones

Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.

We Have all the Time In The World by Louis Armstring

Fairytale of New York by the Pogues- to remind me of Christmas.

Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen

The book is even harder to pick. On the radio show you already get a bible and the compete works of Shakespeare, so maybe some non-fiction like A Brief History of TIme, if I was on a desert island for years and years I mght be able to get my head around it.

As for the luxury item, i'd have a big grand piano.

1) Trapped(live) - Bruce Springsteen - I am a massive fan and there are a few songs I like more but this would really fit the situation, never fails to lift me up.

2) Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz - Upbeat, id need it.

3) Tommib - Squarepusher - I could loop this song for an hour and still not be bored with it.

4) All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix - This list should always include this song if you enjoy music.

5) This Modern Love - Bloc Party - Not a band I am crazy about but I love this song

6) Black Books - Nils Lofgren - Calming, excellent pacing, excellent song.

7) I'm Not Like Everybody Else - The Kinks - The newer version of it

8) Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - Just got to have it.

Book

Tough choice, I was going to go for Mort by Terry Pratchett but settled on Mario Puzo's, The Godfather.

Luxury Item

A 7-iron and an unlimited supply of golf balls.

8 Records

1) A Certain Romance - Arctic Monkeys - My favorite band, my favorite track.

2) All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix - A song that makes me feel powerful, a real feel good song by Jimi the genius.

3) For Once In My Life - Stevie Wonder - Once that intro kicks in it puts a smile on my face, it was a tough choice between this and several other Stevie tracks.

4) Dead Presidents II - Jay Z - Just pipped Notorious B.I.G.'s Juicy as my all time favorite Rap track.

5) There Is A Candle That Never Goes Out - The Smiths - The song that will be played at my funeral - one of Morrissey more upbeat tracks sang with his perfect dulcet tone.

6) Talkin' Bout A Revolution - Tracy Chapman - Wicked guitar tune, wonderful voice.

7) Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson - Grew up on Michael Jackson, fecking love this song & the video.

8) Nightswimming - R.E.M. - Michael Stipe at his best.

8 Songs, bloody hell that is like asking hefner to judge his top 8 fecks. I'll give it a go though.

Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence: Just knocks Kathy's song out of contention as this would be a nice reminder that civilisation isn't all that great anyway.

The Beatles - Day in the life: Might be because I've just been listening to it but I love this song.

The Doors - The end: can't say anymore than the FB.

Bruce Springsteen - Blinded by the light: Not one of his more epic pieces but I love the chirpiness and pace of it.

Mercury Rev - Something for Joey: The ultimate proof that drug abuse, mutual loathing and trombones are beneficial to group dynamics. And the video they made for it stars Ron Jeremy as a psychedelic space traveller.

cLOUDDEAD - I Promise Never to Get Paint on My Glasses Again pt. 1: Featuring at least three of the illest beats ever.
