I could pick one up at a good price.

Do they sound any good?

Home.

It's cheap, it's actually mini (2x30W) but I don't really need more. I'm aware I'm not going to buy something excellent for £300 but it will probably still be better than my £50 LG.

Or if you really want to meddle with powers you can't possibly comprehend:

Prolly not too bad, although in the world of mini-home stereos I'm partial to JVC.

With the minis, speakers are the key. Are they encased in wood or plastic?

Wood.

It looks good and sounds good as well, still I'm not sure if I want to shell out £300 for something like this. Will I really notice that much difference?

Wood will give the speakers a much fuller and warmer sound, I'd say it's a good purchase, maybe not the best deal but when you're buying this kind of stuff deals aren't necessarily the best option.

I just looked at a picture, looks like it would thump. Go for it!

I'm moving to a new apartment in April/May so I will really need something new for the music (not really convinced by a £50 LG as a main system in my living room), and now they're offering it for 70% of price in winter sales which I'd say is a good deal. In April I'd have to pay about £400.

I probably will, cause if I won't, I will end up buying the same stuff for far more in two or three months.
