If that was Denis Irwin's last game for United it is a sad day. Denis showed everything in that game that has endeared him to all United fans. Coolness, footballing brain, skill and poise. If only that free kick had gone in!

Thanks for everything Denis, Red Hero.

Irwin was I feel SAF best £ 4 £ buy. What a star, a true giant in the name of football.

Good luck to him in what ever his future brings

Here, here.

Don't think that was Denis's last game, don't be surprised to see him over the next few weeks doning the red shirt. Nobody over the last 12 years opitomises the red spirit better than Denis. I'll be pleased to buy him a pint one day and talk about old times...Denis Irwin - The Legend

If the Charlton game means zilch in terms of our chances then expect him to play in that, altho Im sure he'd rather sit it out if it meant us winning the league

Best Utd player today - ahead of even Keano

Saved us a couple times at the penalty box.

So do you reckon he will start on Tuesday as replacement for Gary?

I didn't saw the match today but most of the ppl on the forum say that Irwin was great today and not Phil not.

Tuesdays Team
Barthez
Irwin
Brown,Blanc, Jonsen (any two from 3)depending on fitness.
Silvestre
Scholes
Butt
Keane
Giggs
Veron
Van Nistelroy
I think we need to stop them playing through the middle by pressing them deeper

Even at this age, and getting so few first team matches this season, Irwin is still a better full back and more reliable than players in peak years such as Phil Neville. What a legend he is and one of the best signing of Fergie. I hope he will start on Tueday.

Possibly his final European match, let him start, he's a legend

I think he will start unless Fergie thinks he won't be able to handle Zé Roberto's speed. I'd prefer Dinny to start ahead of Phizza tbh. Dinny has a lot calmer head on his shoulders and by all accounts, hasn't lost any ability either.

If Ze Roberto plays the way he did in the first leg, then I'd stay with Phil. Ze Roberto didn't do a whole lot so why change his marking FB?

I just think Dinny has a wiser head on his shoulders which will be needed in the Bay Arena. I love Phil, don't get me wrong, he's a battler and a true RED but, he is prone to making the odd, high profile defensive gaffe. Just my opinion like.

Dennis is a total legend!!

Never forget the first time I heard the Dennis Irwin chant to the tune of "There's No limits"....brilliant!! - it was away at Tottenham when Giggs scored that classic.......through Justin Edinburgh's legs, around Walker and slammed it home from a difficult angle (1993 I think).

Those were great days, and no one symbolises those early 90's years more so than Mr Consistent himself.

Denis had a great game against Ipswich, but I think it may be better to leave P. Neville as RB, since he was barely troubled by the pace of Ze Roberto.

I remember when Silvestre started to take Denis place on the left back.
When Silvestre is just starting to adjust to the role, I realise that over the years we have one of the best fullback in the world.
His work on the pitch almost went unnotice. But you really missed him when he's not around.
Rarely spectacular but yet very effective. And he got this incredible level of consistency. It will be a sad day for the club if he leaves.
Players come and players go, but true legends stay in our heart. Denis, you are a true legend indeed.

Having seen him retire from internationals already, it's as hard again to see him go from club football. Good luck to him, whatever he does.
Unless he gets the Liverpool job. ;)

ahh he'll always be me little leprechaun :D

really hope that wasn't his last game and when it IS time, it's televised over here...God bless ye Denny boy ;)
