Intrigued to see how he gets on in the US. Was always the stand out player in the reserves games I watched and by all accords had a good loan spell at Hearts to.

Doesn't look ready for first team football. Should go on another loan imo.

I've no idea how good he is at football, but he can sing.

I like Demi. I'm not convinced he'll ever be a top player, but he's got a lot of the raw tools to do well as an attacking fullback. I would like to see him get time in our cup games this year.

I like Demi but I think we just saw why Mourinho hasn't taken him seriously as a left-back option despite his good performance against Palace. He looked completely lost whenever asked to defend. Conceding the penalty was no great surprise really. Shame.

I didn’t see the game but speaking generally, physically he just doesn’t look like he has enough.

I think the opposite -- he has the physical attributes to be a modern left-back because he is extremely quick and athletic and fit. But he was horrible defensively today, and they had a field day down his side. And he didn't really show anything positive in the attacking side, except for the one run where he was lucky to be fouled.

I was hoping he could make a claim and surprise people tonight, but I don't see it happening. So yeah, looks like it will be Ashley and Luke as our left wing-backs this year. Terrific.

Was a disaster in first half. This level of football is still very high for him. Couple more loans may help.

He had a very poor first half. His positioning could do with a lot of work in particular. He could do with another season on loan, preferably playing beside an experienced and vocal left centre back.

Needs a loan in the Championship or League One. Not convinced by him.

had a great move before winning the freekick other than that he was quite terrible, not sure if he's LB anymore, he will need to work a lot on his defending, maybe he should go back to play as a wigner/attacker, I am sure he can be as good squad palyer as Lingard has become for us if he gets the right loan move but not sure if as a LB anymore

He'll never be close to Lingard.

He'll never be close to Lingard.
and why do you think if I can ask? His technical ability seems superior to Lingard and always was, just need to work hard and get a good loan and have a bit of luck, If Mourinho is here, I highly doubt Mitchell will make it here but other young manager might give the player a chance in two years if he progresses

The kid went to Scotland and had a really good year. He's impressed coaches and scouts at youth levels and looks to have some real technical ability on the ball.

Yet one performance in preseason is enough for some of you to write off his entire career. One of you even had the wit to suggest he'll never come close to a player who is literally famous for being a late bloomer.

Lingard was one of our best players last season and one of England's best players. That's a very high standard. I completely disagree his technical ability is superior and not sure how one even comes to that conclusion. There is a reason he was pushed to LB and it's because no one at the club thinks he has a chance of making it as an attacker. He's a good player and he has missed development from injuries but there is very little to suggest he'll ever be playing regularly for us or England.

Demi is still a good talent and not exactly old not to progress to the level where Lingard is if he stays fit. He's still got great skillset which is in my honest opinion superior to Lingard at the same age who no doubt was one of our best players last season but it was his only really first season where he looked good enough to be regularly in the first team.

Mitchell really isn't suited to the LB role but he was switched to that position because they thought he would have a better chance of breaking through there having both very young and technically/physically superior Martial, Rashford in front of him in the pecking order, that switch doesn't seem to be working for him now and who knows it will but certainly cant see Mourinho giving chance to 21 years old Lingard at this point.

Lingard was sort of lucky to have Van Gaal here who liked to give a chance to some young players over some more experienced and underperforming stars. And fair play to him and Rashford but they both have to prove a lot still and for some players, the timing isn't just right. And soem are just extremely lucky like let's say McTominay to get a chance after chance. Not saying he is on level with Lingard in terms of talent because he is few levels below but better players left United to have careers elsewhere because they didnt get a chance. BTW lingard only got some chances lately in his prefered position in the middle of the park where he is twice better than on the wing where he started his senior career. So you never know how you break through.

Another defensive horror show in those 13 mins on the pitch.

Clearly needs time to learn the role.

Couldn't see a loan thread for him anywhere but just seen this brilliant box to box defensive run he made for Hearts:

Also, another fantastic bit of skill:

Apparently he's having a very good loan at Hearts, though admittedly I haven't been watching him. Been deployed mostly as a LW/LWB, he'll be playing against Rangers on Sunday for anyone interested.

The decision to move him to left back while he was in the United academy was inspired. He was a really average attacking player but looks a genuine prospect at left back.

Not true at all. He was really highly rated early on as a winger, some even rated him higher than Rashford. Just didn't have any luck at all regarding injuries.

At the point he got converted to a full back, he couldn't get a start for the reserves who were really short of attacking options. Irrespective of how highly rated he was when younger, at that stage he was extremely average and had no chance of getting anywhere near the first team.

As a full back, he trained regularly with the first team and looks a genuine long term possibility for the first team.

If love him to eventually take over from Young.
That's the dream, getting to Shaw have them chasing shadows for 70 minutes then bring on Mitchell to take on their already knackered right back

Didn’t he pick up a bad injury last season as well? Unfortunate.
