Ferdinand would be a great signing - tried and tested in the PL. Can't see Leeds letting him go though, particularly to us. Thuram should have joined last season but the Plc wouldn't come up with the money - has anything changed ?

I wait with interest to see how much Kenyon will give to Fergie for new players withouit insisting on sales first

if we got rio and larry re- signs, a back four of gaz, rio, larry and micky could be brilliant, with wes playing second fiddle for center and right back. then a year on when larry leaves us after a few years good service, brown and rio would be the future for years to come, with rio possibly taking up some rank with the armband.

however, if we got ayala and thuram for 30m (personally think closer to 40m) it will only be a short term fix because thuram is 31 next year, and ayala is 30. quite expensive me thinks. plus the communication could be dodgy.

We may just end up with one of Thuram or Ayala to partner Larry for this year, and then go in for Mexes to replace Larry next year. All we can ask for is about 4-5 years from a CB partnership ala Bruce and Pali.

A couple of TribalFootball stories:
Manchester United have been linked with Barcelona defender Carles Puyol.
The Spanish international is also interesting great rivals Real Madrid and the player, himself, admitted yesterday he wouldn't rule out a move to the European champs.

Puyol's agent, Ramon Sostres said, "It is no longer a question of money, but about the feeling of being wanted.

"It is true that we have offers, but if he does leave it will be for a club that is of the same stature of Barcelona."

Both United and Real have been linked with the 24 year-old in the Catalan press

This guy is young and already a very good right back, shows real promise.

Valencia are willing to listen to offers for centre-half Roberto Ayala.
The Argentina skipper is being chased by both Manchester United and Parma. Spanish reports state that Valencia are prepared to accept offers starting from £24 million.

Ayala admitted earlier this week that he was a better than even chance to be a United player next season.

Hope its not for that price!!

They cant ask for that price. In a year he is out of contract. In January he can sign with a club abroad cant see them ask 24million.Around 12-15 million.Puyol would cost 20 million at least as italians are involved.

20m for Puyol, a full back? What Italians?

Who said we can get Thuram AND Ayala for 30m ?

I don't think Thuram will go for as cheap as the papers say he should, no idea about Ayala's price tho.

Tribalfootball.com is the shitest website ever they write whatever comes to their heads.

;)

How about Southgate and Ferdinand?

Ferdinand would cost 25m and Southgate could be picked up for I reckon around 10m. He has proved this season what a quality defender he is. Wouldn't let him take the penalties though.

Not so long ago, Canavaro, who is one hell of a defender has said some things about Thuram and Nesta. He mentioned something like, although Nesta is one of the best defenders he'd ever known, Thuuram is just from another planet. Technically and physically, Thuram is probably the best.
So if we do get him, even if he's 30, I think we are getting the very best. Footballers now do last until 33-35 in their best forms. So at 16-20 million (compare to 16.8 mill. we sold Stam), this is a bargain. He is definitely better than Stam and only a year or so older.
As for comparison to Rio, no contest here. May be Rio will become the very best, but not for at least another 2-3 years yet by the look at his current performance.
I will be very glad if we get Thuram and may be a couple of fullbacks, a new forth striker, and possibly a goalie.

Forgot to mention that, Canavaro has played along side with Nesta (for Italy) and Thuram (for Parma). Since he is an amazing player himself, when he admitted that Thuram is better than him and Nesta, I'll take his word.
So... forget the rest, Thuram is "the best"!!!
Please GOD, make it happen.
