Deactivating PSN account on a broken PS3

So, my poor old 40gb PS3 died. Have purchased a replacement and was considering flogging the broken one on eBay for spares.

However, I don't want to flog it with my account active on it.

Does anyone know how I can deactivate the account on that machine? Do I need to contact Sony?

It seems that the only way to do it is to call Sony. From what i've heard it can be a pain but this person seems to have done it fine.

I probably wouldn't say it's just so you can flog it for spares though.
