Day 23: Uruguay vs France and Brazil vs Belgium

Was just looking for the thread for this. Juicy games. But I'm not really sure why they put 2 on each day instead of having e.g. one tonight and one tomorrow night. Some people are going to miss the early game tomorrow due to work etc.

Hospital patients can now rate their pain using the Neymar Scale :smirk:

Uruguay and Brazil to progress I think. Can see a 1 nil Uruguay and Brazil will probably be comfortable.

Feel conflicted about Belgium vs Brazil. Now that I truly understand how much of a douche Courtois is I wouldn't mind seeing him get absolutely embarrassed. Only reason I'd like to see Belgium lose really. Either France V Brazil or V Belgium would be tantalizing matchups.

Have a hard time seeing Uruguay being able to make up for Cavani's likely absence. Though I still suspect they might be toying with the press and France on that one.

Cavani will be out against France, so not sure if Stuani has what it takes to keep the Uruguay counter-attacking gear on.

Imagine Fellaini lifting the WC. Would he be the worse ever player to win it?
I think France vs Uruguay will decide who wins the WC. These are the best two teams left.

Cavani out makes France strong favorites. Unless Martinez changes things I think Brazil will breeze past Belgium.

No, that would be Pelé.

Yeah not remotely impressed Ill be missing the France game.

France 1-0 Uruguay. Can't see Uruguay winning with Cavani out but they'll be strong defensively as usual.

Brazil 3-2 Belgium. Should be a thriller.

I'm already starting to feel nervous. :nervous: Planning to get home from work early so I can catch France - Uruguay on a big screen with a couple of beers to steady the nerves ahead of our game. A win tomorrow would be the most significant result in our entire footballing history.

Far from it.

France and Belgium to win! Uruguay has good defense but I still fancy France's chance. As for Belgium, their confidence now is high. I expect them to edge it vs Brazil.

Can't wait!

Considering there's inferior players currently in their squad no. Not to mention there's been less accomplished players with world cup medals at just about every world cup.

Strange quote from Griezmann not exactly endearing to Atletico fans

Breaking down a defence controlled by José Giménez and Diego Godín will be easier said than done, as their clubmate Griezmann is all too aware. “Uruguay will be like Atlético,” said Griezmann this week. “They will take their time, fall, go to the referee. We will have to get used to that because the match will be boring and they will want to bring us into that.”

I still feel confident about my pre-tournament prediction that Belgium will beat Brazil in the quarter-final.

Well since 1920:)

Can’t really see it opening up. This game may expose France’s weakness of a lack of a true 10 a la Platini/Zidane. However no Cavani will make goals even more scarce for Uruguay.

They’ll try to sneak a 1-0 result or go to PKs so expect extremely cynical play from Uruguay.

Still don't understand why Firmino can't get a look. Has been better than Jesus in his cameos and his play style fits the tactics better.

Belgium has problems in the transition from attack to defense, and it is kinda slow. The velocity of Gabriel Jesus can be decisive in this game, and not only while attacking, he can drop back to defend and mark in Neymar's place.

Firmino is better for Brazil when the opponent is parking the bus. He is taller and can help creating chances and opening spaces dropping back to the midfield.

 If he cares about that he should have gone to Barcelona on slightly lower wages. Greedy little scrote.
