Newcastle United have agreed a £5million deal for Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon.

Manager Alan Pardew has turned to the 20-year-old Italy international after hitting a snag in negotiations over PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters.
Santon can play either side and has progressed through the ranks at Inter.

Quite a strange move for him, I remember him being touted as the next Maldini by some after his debut season. Seems to have stagnated, could be a bargain for Newcastle.

Yeah, he did look very promising when Mourinho was first there. Could be a decent signing, I haven't followed his career.

yeh he seemed pretty decent when i watched him. arsenal could have done with him for 5

Looked good in his first season as a youngster, didnt make the breakthrough as a regular first teamer though and went on loan. The fact they are letting him go for £5 million doesnt bode well. I mean thats not much more than Obertan, and he's going to Newcastle. Something tells me he isnt going to be any better than that debut season when we first saw him

Possibly. Still worth a punt for a club like Newcastle though.

I thought he was tremendous when he was facing United a few years back, I believe Ronaldo very uncharacteristically acknowledged a defender's presence when he complemented Santon's performance when we faced them the year we made the Rome final.

But I don't remember seeing him in their line ups much. Could be a great move for both parties, we should keep an eye on him just in case as well.

He's a monster on FIFA. It's odd how he was being raved about a couple of years back but has dropped off the radar entirely of late.

What a strange transfer, especially considering the low fee. Inter fans went mad at Benitez when he wouldn't play Santon.

I suspect they were using that as an excuse. Look at his fat little face. Who wouldn't want to punch him?

God, the abuse they used to give him on message boards was so terrible I felt sorry for Benitez. Yet Mourinho could do no wrong, it seems. I suspect that the dislike for Rafa & the love for José wasn't all about results (even though JM's were outstanding while RB's were poor).

I am very impressed with who Newcastle have bought over the summer. They have bought some nice young players. They have used the Carroll money very well.

Pandev also went on loan to Napolo. What's going on at Inter? More outies than innies.

Indeed, they brought a solid striker who won't do much worse than Carroll for free in Ba, they got two very good midfielders in Marveaux and Cabaye for peanuts. They might end up rebuilding half of their squad with £35m received for Carroll.

Odd move. I would've thought they'd keep him considering Gasperini's 3-4-3 employs wingbacks and he's always struck me as one of those defenders that are very good going forward, not so much when they're defending.

I thought he looked the bollocks when we played Inter few years ago. Actually i wouldn't mind United paying out 5m for him, he could work out great

fame got to his head a little too early, or so i heard

surely a good player in the making though... maybe not as good as we once thought

more like the Abramovich money

they only got 35 million quid from Liverpool for Carroll because of the bizarre fee splashed by Chelsea on Torres

if Newcastle avoid relegation this season they'll have Abramovich to thank

I also think it was weird for Nolan to leave the premier league and go back down to the Championship when he was captain of this club for the last few seasons.

What I meant was we would not have had to spend around £15-20m for him but £9-12m.

Must be something to do with the image cleanup. Barton was also one of their best performers but he was let go. Nolan is also a bit of a studs up kind of player.

If he can get back to the player he was looking like then Newcastle have got a steal
