Seems to be mentioned in regards to Moyes' visit to watch Cagliari and Juventus.

27 year old defender, year or so left on his contract I think.

With Rio and Vidic looking set for an exit, it would make sense. In saying that, I have not seen much of him, I know he is a quality defender and a good player but I couldn't give a useful description of him.

I've heard good things but can't say I've ever seen him play.

Would certainly be a lot cheaper than the likes of Mangala, Garay etc.

Garay is £25 million apparently. Why are all the Portuguese league players so ridiculously overpriced

Astori was a really top player a couple of seasons back and many top italian clubs were interested in his services but last season he was average. This year he made a remarkable improvement and seems to be back to the form he was praised for.

I guess they are always in demand, so they are given such high prices I presume.

Would anyone consider the portuguese league a hotbed for central defender talent? How often have you seen a portuguese club side with a defensive masterclass, rather than some exciting attacking play?

Apparently Garay and Mangala are £25 million each CBs. I get the feeling Evans would be valued the same if he was playing in Portugal

Notable CB exports from Portugal the past few years include Pepe, Bruno Alves and David Luiz. You can't blame their... passion.

In Italy people are reporting that likely him - not Marchisio - was the reason why Moyes was yesterday on Cagliari. Hopefully they are wrong.

He probably scouted him at Everton and thought he might be good enough for them, ergo good enough for United.

I imagine he's slow. Is he slow?

Haven't see him playing more than 2-3 times so I don't have any idea about how good/slow he is. He's tall though (1.9m).

27 years old, played all his senior career for Cagliari, was not good enough for Milan and they sold him for 1m and no big club on Italy was interested for him. That's bad. The good part is that he is Italian and has played 7 times for Italy. They're good at defending, I have heard.

I would have imagined that if he were really good he'll had played more for Italy.

I'm not surprised that Milan sold him. He was only 21 at the time and they tend to move around a bit there in Italy.

We need a CB. We might even need two. I doubt he's a bad player. He's most likely better than Smalling or Jones currently are. If he weren't they wouldn't be checking up on him. Tall is good. I'm just worried about his pace. Playing FM now and they have him at 13 acceleration and 14 pace. That's not slow at least. Vidic is 10 and 11 by comparison. My guess is that FM isn't far off in their estimate regarding top players in the top leagues.

Probably because of Fellaini.

Can't lie I laughed out loud at this.

This too.

Seriously speaking can regular Serie A watchers comment on this guy's talent?

Astori's good and has been linked to many vdecent sides. United good? I don't know, tough to defend for Cagliari. I'm sure he would be a useful squad player, but don't expect a Vidic.

turned down a £12m move to moscow 2 summers back, to stay and "achieve his goals" at calgiari. according to wiki anyway

If he's decent and Vidic leaves he'll make good cover for Smalling and Jones. There's a good lad.

Yes but at least the former two are good defenders compared to Luiz.

I'm surprised with all the talk of who Moyes was watching in the Cagliari Juventus match that nobody has mentioned Nicolas Murru the young Cagliari left back who looks like he could have a big future

Seems as though they will listen to any offers, not going to cost as much as first thought.
