Anyone else think he would be a decent option?
His contract expires June 2014, but he's pushing for a move this summer:
Some pros:
- After a down year with personal problems, he looked back to his best at Fiorentina last season.
- A lot more experienced than most other available targets.
- Would provide great backup for Carrick allowing us to manage both players' playing time better. He offers greater defensive protection than the options we already have. While I feel he & Carrick are good enough to start alongside each other, given Pizarro's age (34 in September) and increasing lack of mobility, he'd still afford the likes of Cleverley a lot of playing time. Unless we sign someone like Thiago or Strootman, I think Pizarro could be a good short-term boost to our European chances, whilst giving the club & new manager time to fully evaluate transfer targets & options already at the club.
cons:
- Or is he completely opposite to the direction we should be going in post-Scholes? (meaning we don't need another player to sit and slow the pace, but someone more dynamic & mobile, to go into buzzword overdrive).
Anyone have any thoughts on his time at City, how he seemed to adjust in the few games he was given? I seem to remember him being alright the few times I saw him, but my memory's awful.

He's so far been linked with Zenit (a reunion with Spalletti, his coach at Udinese & Roma) & Manchester City. The 'new adventure' talk plus the Zenit link & speculation that he's on €700,000 per year at Fiorentina, suggests he's after one final payday before returning to South America.his agent Alejandro Santisteban said:"...He wants to try another adventure in Europe. He’s had a great season and I think he can play at the highest level for another year or two. He wants to leave and we’ll go on the market."
