Another striker rumoured to be on our wanted list. Has anyone seen Bellion play or does anyone know anything about him?

He came on for the second half when we played at the Stadium of Light last year although I think Sunderland were 3-0 down at the time.

I wasn't there but followed it on the radio and remember the difference he made. Initially he created danger when he was on the ball and he skinned our defence a few times. Seemed to fade as the game went on, but then he's a young lad.

Sounds like a talent that needs to be saved from the Wilko Boot Camp regime.

If you are in the Sunderland stiffs you are not much good are you now?

He has also played for the French under 19s
He is a great raw talent and is available on a "Free" next summer.
WE will bring him on greatly . It is said he could rival Thierry Henri in time!

Depends how you look at it. Possibly he doesn't fit into the Wilko way which might even be a virtue.

Or possibly, like Silvestre, he has natural attributes of bravery, strength and pace that can't be coached but needs time to develop a better all round game.

And Sunderland's stiffs are well regarded enough for SAF to take on Ricky Sbragia to coach ours.

Could be that Wilkinson is showing what a great judge of talent he is again.

The story was also at the team site:

A quick change
Sunderland striker David Bellion is stalling on a new contract and looks likely to join Manchester United. The 20-year-old, who has also been employed as a right-sided midfielder by Peter Reid and Howard Wilkinson, has caught the eye of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. United scouts believe Bellion, with his blistering pace and raw talent, has the attributes to be a player in the Thierry Henry mould.

Could you just see this kid with Ruud? My God, imagine the possiblities! :D

i saw him play a couple times - he's got pace - not what i'd call "big boned". but he'd add the speed i think fergie's looking for. he'd be a lot cheaper than some others and could play in all matchs.

and he is young that is a good thing. At 20 years old there is alot of potential there for him to become as good as Henry and Van Nistelrooy. Ferguson is just the manager to make him into a striker out of the Henry or even Van Nistelrooy mould.

think youre going overboard a bit ... the kid is 20 and cannot unseat the world beaters that are marcus stewart and tore andre flo ... think its a bit early to compare him to henry etc.

Just been reading about him in todays Mail.

They're really building him up in the write up.

What have we got to lose anyway he's leaving on a free.

He did unseat Marcus Stewart against Villa earlier this season and scored but got injured before the next match.

I've seen him a few times and recall him scoring at least one cracker. He's very quick, but its a bit early to say he's the new Henry. He's young, free and we do lack a genuinely fast striker, so he could fit the bill.

Wilkinson admitted today Bellion rejected a new deal (which means he'd be free in the summer), and says that at the moment he is at Sunderland to stay.. until the end of the season.
