New Scotland Under-21 coach Rainer Bonhof has named a host of new faces in his first squad.

Nine players had already been told they would be in the squad to face Denmark next week, including newcomer Darren Fletcher of Manchester United and his team-mate Michael Stewart, who has already played for Berti Vogts for the full international side.

But as the Under-21s have been inactive for almost a year, Bonhof was able to make sweeping changes after assessing the cream of the nation's young talent.

The German - a team-mate of Vogts in the 1974 World Cup-winning side - oversaw coaching sessions plus a 1-0 friendly victory over a Kilmarnock side before picking a pool to face Denmark at East End Park, Dunfermline next Tuesday.

The new recruits also include Andy Dowie and Steven McLean of Rangers and Celtic's John Kennedy, players who have found first team chances hard to come by at their clubs.
