Left out of the matchday squad again last night. Seems pretty strange. He might not be much of a footballer, but he guarantees you goals. If 'Arry hadn't had a go at him while at Spurs I'd have thought he'd be a perfect signing for QPR. At this rate they'll struggle to get £10m for him.

This seems to happen a lot with him so I've surmised that he's probably a bit of a knob. However he gets you goals so it's a bit petty from Lambert.

What was weird from watching them is their play up to Benteke is made for him. Long ball up to Benteke who would head it on to no body, it seemed perfect for Bent to be involved really they did it a few times last night from what I saw and in any other game I've seen them in.

To be fair to Bent the only other place I remember it happening was Spurs? And even then it was just because they had better strikers, everywhere else he has played regularly, got goals and left on his own accord.

It's baffling villa don't play him, he has proven he will get goals and it is crucial to stay in the league, I can't see how they can afford to be fussy with people who are proven at this level.

Liverpool should have tried to sign him before Carroll. Would have been perfect.

He sounds like a massive knob head.

Before. He was injured for a while and apparantly wasn't following the regime he was given by the medical team I.E not resting and eating poorly. When he was called in and bollocked by Lambert for it he kicked off.

Doesnt leave Villa with much choice but to get rid then. They wont get a good price though after his layoff.

Fits in with 95% of modern footballers then.

Not really. Refusing to maintain his body when not playing isnt what you'd associate with 95% footballers. And to kickoff a fuss when called up on it. Ridiculous.

I was commenting more on the him being a knob aspect........just like 95% of modern footballers

It's a good way to establish your authority, confronting the biggest star. It may be worth it for it's own sake, even if he were not acting like a knob.

It's also a decision made easier by the way Benteke's been playing.

I've never particularly rated him if I'm honest. Would still be a good signing for most Premier League sides though. Liverpool could do a lot worse.

Spurs is the only team that could really afford to freeze him out but he's had attitude problems at most clubs - can't remember what he said but he had those issues on twitter with Sunderland, pretty much forced his way out of Ipswich and Sunderland too.

Benteke is selfless and works hard for the team.

Darren Bent works hard when there's a chance it will lead to him scoring a goal.

Bent would shoot when the better option is a pass 9 times out of 10. I imagine that attitude isn't what a guy like Lambert's willing to put up with.

Also bear in mind that £6m of his transfer fee was to be paid based on appearances/goals, I'm betting he hasn't triggered the majority of these targets and so playing him at the moment might end up costing them more than he's worth, especially if the end result is him being sold anyway.

Bent is a proven PL goalscorer and with Villa's current situation, they'd be much better off with him in the 11. It'l be his antics rather than his style of play or the willingness to work hard that will see him leave Villa.

This season: Darren Bent has got 3 goals in 11 appearances for Villa.

Benteke: 5 goals in 11 appearances plus 2 assists.

Rooney's scored very few too this year. Doesnt mean much as Bent has been scoring consistently in the PL for quite some time now. If he plays consistently for a season, he pretty much guarantees close to 20 goals.

Cant Villa play a system to fit in both Ben and Benteke? They should compliment each other well. Benteke's been too good to make way really so if the issue settles down, Villa could do well to have them both on the pitch.

He seems confused about the number of guys he has to look after, it seems to shift between 25 and 26, I hate to get negative but if he doesn't know how many, he can't be doing that great a job.

That might be the case. You'd wonder whether two months out of the team might cause his value to drop by a similar figure anyway.

They're using Benteke instead, he has three more letters to his name, is much younger and will probably be a much better footballer in the future.

I read somewhere that another appearance for Bent would lead to Villa paying another installment of the deal with Sunderland.

He was supposed to be worth £24m when he signed for them so I imagine a large part of that was based on appearance count. They'll find a buyer for Bent easily, plenty of teams in PL need a goalscorer now and there aren't many who are better than him at scoring for mid-table sides. Then again the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Fulham are well stocked in that department in terms of first team, no top 4 contender will come near him and all the other teams won't pay more than £10m.

West Ham would be better off with him than Carroll.

I think in terms of his all round game, I think Bent is a strong candidate to be the worst player in the Premier League. He is a truly awful player. He's got a knack for goal scoring though, so will always do a good job at a lower half team that set up to create for him. But no decent club would play someone of his limited ability. I think Villa will have a job shifting him, as there aren't many clubs that can afford him who would be interested. West Ham seem like the only realistic option.
