No transfer rumours, but I guess a thread should still be possible?

Danilo Pereira have been progressing quietly and in the shaddow of William Carvalho in Portugal. But in my opinion Danilo Pereira is starting to look like the most interesting progress of the two of them. Like Carvalho he is an absolut beast, and like Carvalho he is the focal point of a top team in Portugal. Compared to Carvalho I think he looks quicker with more intensity to his game. Peyroto wrote in the Porgugese Football-thread that if Carvalho plays like a lesser Busquets, you could say that Danilo plays like a lesser Vieira. In my opinion, that is a good description. But enough about Carvalho vs Danilo, this thread is for Danilo.

In my opinion, Danilo Pereira should be looking to get a big club move soon. He is 25 years of age, has established himself as a key player for Porto and has two years remaning of his contract. Due to his physical presence (ok pace, 188 cm and quite atletic) he would be a interesting option for several PL-clubs. This year he has played as a defensive cover in 433 and with more attacking freedom in 442 and 4231.

In my opinion he is the perfect "water carrier"; a player who provides a lot of ball recoveries but is also quite good on the ball. Jose Mourinho would also appreciate that he is great in the air (top ten i Portugal and wins 75 % of the duels he is in).

I also find his passing to be quite underestimated. For Porto he averages more passes per game than any other players, and with a higher completion rate than any of his peers (89 %, team averages 81). In Champions League Oliver Torres beats him with four more passes per game, but Danilo still has the heighest completion percentage (90,3 %). It is also worth mentioning that he move the ball forward. For Porto in the league 76 % of his passes are forward passes. In the CL and for Portugal in the Euros he averages between 71 and 72 %. The average length of his passes are 20,4 m in the league, and respectively 18,4 and 18,2 m in the CL and for Portugal in the Euros.

To put those last numbers in to perspective a prime Michael Carrick (12/13) had a completion rate of 88 % in the PL. 74,7 % of those passes where "forward passes". The average length was 18,67 m. Xabi Alonso of 12/13? 83 % completion rate, 73,2 % going forward and an average length of 20,11 m. Yes, I know, thougher league an all that. But Michael Carrick and Xabi Alonso of 12/13 is benchmarks of world class passers.

I do not think Danilo Pereira is quite comparable and "up there", but his passing is good. In terms of breaking up play and giving defensive cover, he is better than both of them were.

I'm surprised that he do not get more attention. On the other hand, players like these rarely get the attention they deserve. Especially if they play in a smaller league (ref Kante prior to Leicester).

He's good, the big reason for Porto's ongoing 670 minutes streak without conceding a goal. Is he Manchester United good? Maybe not as a starter, but as a substitute sure. The problem is that he would cost more than what he's worth and he would be used for you as he was by Portugal in the Euros, back up for your first choice defensive midfielder and that player you bring on when you're holding on to a small lead.

Would he fit in? I think someone like William Carvalho would fit in better at Manchester United, with the ball on his feet he'd be perfect however his defensive transition game is poor. You already have your version of Adrien in Ander Herrera and even though he's a lesser version he's certainly been good enough. I actually think your midfield's balance is perfect right now, but without Carrick that balance is gone because you don't have any player like him. And Danilo is certainly not the solution to this.

Danilo should make the jump to one of the big leagues, but I don't think United should be particularly interested in him. Liverpool on the other hand would be smart to sign him up.

Bit disappointed by his performance against Juventus, but probably not the best game to judge him on.

I would consider going for Paredes or Dahoud with the latter able to pass with both feet and he's very quick as well. Would be great on the counter attack.

Not sure how often I have pointed it out, but he isn't a #6 and at this moment of time no better than Herrera.

Underrated post.

Since then he has been performing extremely well while William has been declining. Danilo has probably won the starting spot in Portugal's midfield but I still mantain he wouldn't be fit in well in Manchester.
You know more than me, but from the little I've seen I just get the feeling you're right.

Really? Iv watched around 14-16 games of Porto's this season and I'd rather have him than Weigl. Someone who can sit back, soak up the pressure and be a presence in our midfield. His passing is also quite underrated on this forum as most think he is just a destroyer.

He is having a great season. Solid player

Benfica, Porto and Sporting have great defensive midfielders in Fejsa, Danilo and William, respectively

Agreed with the first part. Disagree with the second paragraph. As much as it pains me to say it, William has been disgraceful this season. Fejsa (too bad he's a bit injury prone) and Danilo have been great.

Thank you, Danilo is and has been the best CDM in Portugal
