From Red Issue:

The ‘New Maradona’ is quoted in the NOTW:

“I will be honoured to travel to Manchester United and stay a few days for talks.

The NOTW go on to say that his agent has had informal talks with United.

He would probably get into the first team right away, probably at Becks' expense.

You mean if utd sign him it could possibly be as a replacement for Becks if he leaves? and is d'allesandro really that great right now??( he might be a great young player, but what do you think of him now?)

Unless Beckham is sold and I think he'll agree a contract,I can't see United spending £15m+ on anyone before the summer.

Even if becks is sold, it will only be in summer.

From PLanetfootball.com:

UNITED LATEST TO CHECK OUT D'ALESSANDRO by Ariel Hergott

MANCHESTER UNITED are believed to have become the latest club to cast an envious eye over River Plate's creative genius Andres D'Alessandro.

Martin Ferguson, manager Sir Alex's brother, is believed to have taken in River's match with Lanus in the Argentinian league last Sunday and a move to Europe appears to be beckoning for the young starlet.

His performances in the Apertura competition have had scouts flocking to Argentina, with Aston Villa, Leeds and especially Barcelona leading the way. Diego Maradona has been moved to say that 'D'Alessandro is my successor', although hopefully this will not pressurise the 20-year-old too much, something that has happened to others in the past.

Real Betis are believed to have enquired about D'Alessandro's status but did not follow matters up having been quoted a price of £20 million.

Exactly what the situation is at Old Trafford with regard to signings, given Ferguson will retire in the summer and D'Alessandro is only likely to move then is unknown, although the incoming coach would certainly be delighted with a player with the skill of the Argentinian awaiting him.

Internazionale are also reported to have begun negotiations with the player's agent Pablo Cosentino two weeks ago, although River's internal elections have slowed matters up. The new president, Jose Maria Aguilar, has said his intention is not to sell D'Alessandro but the severe economical crisis that the club have and the desire of the midfielder to emigrate to Europe (having recently obtained an Italian passport) makes the idea of the sale more than possible.

Many people who have read about him off of Roy's list for example, think that he is some sort of young/junior u-21 type. I just watched him play against Boca this past week and am convinced that he is ready to move to Europe immediately. He's got the skills and creativity and is definitely going to be a star once he hits Europe, ala Saviola.

A) He's a fanastic player
B) We don't need him
C) Especially not for that kind of money
D) He's too small

My 2cents:

1. He's a fantastic player.
2. We need younger players.
3. We can afford anyone.
4. He can't possibly be smaller than Scholes.

Doubt he'll ever play for us, though I wish he would.

Did you catch him against Boca this week Roy ?

1. Agreed
2. We have the likes of Timm, Fletcher, Djordjic and Richardson coming up, all midfielders, all look good bets to make it, undoubtedly not all of them will but at least 1 or 2 certainly will. What chance do they stand if we keep buying 20+ million pounds foreigners to play in midfield?
3. Bollox. Can afford anyone my arse. You think we've spent a lot this season? rubbish. Ruud was from last year's dosh. Veron+Carrol cost us about 30 mil. 16.5 for Jaapsy. 7.5 for Coley. 4 for Wilson+Greening. Now 7.5 for Forlan. And perhaps PDC for about 3 while selling Yorke for say 6 mil. Add it up and you'll see we've spent feck all.

And anyway, I can't see the point of spending 20+ million on a midfielder when obviously it's a defender/striker and perhaps a goalie we need.

4. He is smaller than Scholes, and a lot less powerful, not to mention the fact that their playing style is completely different.

Yes, I saw him against Boca, he was fantastic, as I said, he's a tremendous player but we can't sign up every good midfielder there is.

Splash the cash on 2 defenders and Cisse in the summer I say (I don't believe those 'waiting 2 years at least' crap). Tudor and Hofland would make for a great pair. If we don't buy Cisse then splash the cash on a goalie.

Not satisfied with Fab are we Roy ? ;)

I think we would increase the chances of signing Djibril if we brought Mexes along at the same time.

chivu is top drawer..

other ones who should interest us:

Hofland
Mexes
Bridge
Ashton(scored a cracker over the weekend)
Van der Vaart
Cisse

No, not 100% satisfied. As I said, buying a new goalie is not the top priority at the moment but if we can't sign Cisse (assuming we even want him) and have enough dosh left, I'd go out and buy a keeper, not that I really see any outstanding available ones out there.

About the Cisse-Mexes thing, certainly buying one would help getting the other and I wouldn't mind to see both coming.

However, having a CB partnership of Mexes-Hofland is a bit too inexperienced for my liking. Tudor is young as well, but a lot more experienced and a lot more commanding.

As I said, Hofland-Tudor would make a fantastic partership, both big, both powerful, both aggressive, they would certainly add some much needed steel to the defence. Both are ball playing CBs as well so will fit in well. Tudor's ability to play as a DM and do it successfully is also a great feature to have, just try and remember Ronnie doing the job at DM vs Inter in 99, fantastic.

Buying Bridge as cover/competition for Micky and as a replacement for Denis would be ideal as well IMO.

Hofland, Bridge, Tudor and Cisse to come. Sounds ideal. Will never happen.

I've seen D'Alessandro play in the last couple of years, and saw both games played this week versus Boca, and while he is a talented player, his attitude strikes me very similar to that of Alan Smith. They both pout and seem to become easily frustrated. Hopefully age and eventual NT experience can cure this.

Red Pat got my full vote up there ... My thinking is ... well I should say this by FRI then everything will be clearer then but nevermind ...

Assuming PDC didn't turn up ... then IMO at least 4 personnel will be dropping in this off-season taking up 4 different positions in the team :

Manager
CB
Forward/Striker
Fullback (one preferably able to play both R&L)

Got to work now ... will post my personal fav. later in another topic ..

Raoul I completely agree. Between him and Riquelme I think I watch two of the future best players in the world. Riquelme is another Zidane.

Juventus has beaten Manchester United, Leeds and Inter Milan to pull off one of the biggest signings of the year in the form of Argentina's next big thing, Andrés D'Alessandro.
The River Plate star, who is regarded as Argentina's next Maradona, will arrive at Juventus at the end of the season in a deal said to be worth 25 million euros.

Reports in the Argentine media claim Juventus and River have signed a pre-agreement ensuring that the teenage star becomes a Juventus player.

About goalkeepers, Enke the german #2 would be available on a free this Summer.

Hofland and Cisse would do me. Hofland played well on Saturday, he's compared to Stam, to me he is not as massive physically but is more mobile. And the combination RVN and Cisse would be powerful, how would you defend against them?

D'Allesandro; one thing he does well is maintain control while under pressure, and then find a good pass. Like was said he is light, and might go down a little too easy in the Prem, one game I saw he drew 3 yellow cards and countless fouls, but still he was making things happen.

I thought Cisse was going to the dippers?

And if we are interested in this D'Alessandro kiddy - I doubt wed get him unless Veron left....

D'Allesendro has been bought guys...
TeamTalk:
Juventus have beaten United to the capture of Argentinean wonderkid Andres D'Alessandro after signing a pre-contract to take him in July.
Italian state TV, RAI, has reported that a deal for the player, who is considered Maradona's heir by Diego himself, has already been reached between his current club, River Plate, and Juventus.
The Italian giants would pay River, a club that is not immune to the severe economical crisis that has recently swept Argentina, over £15million to secure the young star who has also attracted the interest of United and Inter Milan, among others.

D'Allesandro and River Plate will be playing a friendly against Mexico's Chivas this Tuesday (Feb. 5th) in Houston, Texas. Anyone able to see it?

Turin, February 11 - by Nadia Carminati (DS)- Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi today hit back at the recent speculations over next season's arrival of Argentinean midfielder D'Alessandro and Lazio's defender Alessandro Nesta.
Moggi revealed his side did not hold any negotiations with either of the mentioned players.

Are pre-contracts legal, or still 'knocking up' a player? If the latter, then they won't admit to it. Just like we won't about Hofland :D
