Man United and Liverpool plot transfer of Dutch starlet Daley Sinkgraven in January or next summer

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax are also watching Heerenveen's Holland U21 international

Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers are rivals in the £4million chase for new Dutch whizkid Daley Sinkgraven.

Champions League winners Real Madrid, fellow La Liga giants Barcelona, Bundesliga champs Bayern Munich and Eredivisie heavyweights Ajax are also tracking the Holland under-21 international midfielder.

But Manchester United boss Van Gaal and Liverpool chief Rodgers are firmly in the race to snare Sinkgraven, either in the January transfer window or next summer.

Heerenveen know they have no chance of hanging on to the talented 19-year-old long-term, but are determined to keep him for the rest of this season if they are still in with a chance of snatching a European place come the turn of the year.

Van Gaal and Rodgers both see Sinkgraven, who has three years left on contract at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, as one for the future.

But the two bitter Premier League rivals plan an early swoop because they don’t want to miss out on a youngster who looks a sure-fire superstar in the making.

Van Gaal wants to bolster his Red Devils' midfield because Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher are fast approaching the veteran stage, and there are question marks hovering over the Old Trafford futures of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini.

Rodgers is eyeing up Sinkgraven as the prospective long-term successor to the Anfield giants' skipper Steven Gerrard.

Sinkgraven has made stunning progress at Heerenveen since exploding into what was his breakthrough season last time around.

After racking up 17 appearances last term, he has been an ever-present this campaign as they push for a Europa League spot.

He has notched two goals in nine league and cup outings for the Dutch outfit, including a shock winner against league leaders PSV Eindhoven nine days ago.

I saw him against PSV a few weeks ago when he played as a deep lying midfielder and won 9 tackles and scored the winner and was impressed. He looks a good prospect

He has pretty high potential on FIFA Career Mode.

Don't we have a little Holland in Manchester by now? We should get the best of Dutch talent.

He looks pretty smooth on the ball and seems to have good acceleration, hopefully his surname has a cool pronunciation. :D

Man United plot Daley Sinkgraven transfer swoop before rival suitors can make their move

Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in Dutch wonderkid Daley Sinkgraven.

Louis van Gaal is worried that the Old Trafford giants may lose out on the 19-year-old attacking midfielder to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Liverpool after some eye-catching performances for Heerenveen this season.

He has ordered his scouting team to bring him more detailed reports about Sinkgraven’s progress with a view to agreeing a deal with his Dutch club in January.

Van Gaal knows all about Sinkgraven’s background – the player’s father, Harry, played for Groningen and Zwolle.

Any deal is likely to see the player stay with Heerenveen until the end of next season to continue his footballing education.

Ajax are also interested in the Dutch Under-21 star but Van Gaal’s reputation for developing young players could be decisive.

Wait, if we buy him we'll be loaning him back for the rest of this season and all of next season?

Wait, if we buy him we'll be loaning him back for the rest of this season and all of next season?

Looks that way. Probably the best thing for him. Give him first team game time. He wouldn't get a game for us this year, and until we trim our squad further, we'll still have a large squad if we qualify for Europe next season.

Seen him play a bit and he has a lot of potential, would definitely be worth signing and then loaning out for rest of this season and maybe even next season, he would be relatively cheap, has a great left foot, good dribbler and has that burst of pace which makes a big difference. This is the sort of player we need to be targeting in terms of a long term transfer strategy, signing promising young players from all over the world and then finding the right places to send them on loan if they aren't ready to play straight away, Chelsea have had a lot of success doing it and they would have more if they were actually prepared to give them a go in the first team.

I actually saw that last night on an Eredivisie round up show on Sky, his name also doesn't sound as awful when pronounced as it reads. If we are really looking to buy him surely it's not with the intention of loaning him back for 18 months.

Hopefully with the best Dutch coach on the planet, the national team Captain and the potential future national team Captain at the club, this should be a mere formality if we're genuinely in for him.
