'tis a silly place
Does anyone know the situation with him?

It's gone quiet for a while now, and he's almost 22.

We should go for him sooner rather than later imo.

Energetic, range of passing and shooting ability, variety of positions, he has the lot.

He's not especially pacy, but he has enough quickness and touch to slip defenders.

Maradona himself has stated that he believes that the 22 year old attacking midfielder is better than he was at the same age.

D'Alessandro has been chased by some of Europe's biggest sides, including the likes of Juventus, Milan, Roma, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and even Manchester United, although we quickly ended the interest in the player after signing Forlan. In January Juventus were said to have signed a preliminary contract with the player settling on a deal worth 22 million dollars but nothing seems to have happened since then.

River have recently cut their asking price for D'Alessandro to 20 million dollars due to the economical instability of the country. D'Alessandro's agents have hinted that he is on the verge of joining Juve and word has it that the deal will go through soon.

Here is another story relating him with Barca

Nonsense. Martin Ferguson was in SA looking for a defender when Diego dazzled him and he recommended him to Fergie which led to his signing. Our alleged interest (or lack thereof) in D'Allesandro has nothing to do with Diego. They play at different positions and are completely different players. The only similarity is that they play/ed in the Argie league.

I read this news in a site and It was their opinion not mine. This news is old so i cant provide you a link to support my post

I don't see him as a natural left-winger.

He's a centre-mid who can occasionally do a job on the left. Like Fortune, but more talented.

I'd get him as replacement for Keane in the long run or replacement for Seba if needed.

Where did you hear about his contract?

Replacement for Keane?

Agree that he is not a natural LW- dashing down the sideline type. He reminds me of Joe Cole in style- good at dribbling at defenders but with stronger distribution and shooting. He will probably settle in CM where he can pull the strings, he's a very incisive passer. He's already pulling the strings for River Plate, his teammates are always looking to get him the ball because he's the one that will make things happen.
Bit lightweight for the prem though, although he is well used to rough treatment, never seen one player fouled so much.

He's got supreme stamina and his fitness is second to none. He could be the box-to-box player we need to compensate for when Roy does leave.

how much is 20 million dollars in pounds? about £18 million?

Which is?

Gazza seems a a bit obsessed with you mate. I'd be worried...

You'd start talking about how we always miss out on starlets and what have you.

Don't listen to jsv, he's obsessed with me for some reason....

12m quid, a bargain for whoever can get the best out of him. Can we? That's a separate issue.

Couldn't tell right now. I know both him and River expected him to leave during XMAS which, probably due to the state of the transfer market, hasn't happened. River must be quite desperate as it is a lot of money for them, they were counting with it and they need it. He will certainly go this Summer so it won't go down to his contract.

In fact, the "out of contract" issue here in SAM is not the same as in Europe. It's no longer "slavery" but it hasn't turned into the mercenary/opportunistic approach that the Bosman ruling has created there.

Agents/businessmen invest in a "player's rights" and they "own" him (a percentage) even if not under contract with a specific club. That is, a player can be tied up to a certain degree to an agent who calls the shots even if the contract with River was up.

My point being, it is rarely the player getting the windfall from being out of contract but they still get all the "traitor/mercenary" stick if they don't extend it. A completely different set of incentives!

Furthermore, the person owning the "rights" is not necessarily an agent but -in Argentina in particular- a businessman linked to the club (e.g. Macri, millionaire President of Boca Jrs.) who invests in the player to bring them to the club and are therefore loyal to it. They know they will make some money eventually, which is great but they will not screw the club in the process.

Cavenaghi's been linked with Juventus - apparently they're willing to tradfe Salas for him, which would be as attractive or more than Man Utd cash.

D'Allesandro is very, very good, but he's bloody small. I can see him just getting kicked about all the time. Owen is bigger than him, and a lot faster, and he still gets a fair battering.

anyone catch the footage of him in Rivers 6-0 win over someone or another? some very nice goals, i admit some quite poor keeping too but lets not detract from the goals though!

Im not sure he would make it in the EPL though, reminds of a Joe Cole in a way, quite flash but not alot of substance, hes better off in Italy.

d'allesandro and cavenaghi are both on their way to juve.

salas said he will be leaving in the summer, and he said he talked to river. river said they want him back. cavenaghis agent is the brother of omar sivori, or omar sivori himself, who is a juve legend.

on another note, the future for juve looks bright with negotiations for boinera almost concluded and mexes probably on his way:

buffon
thuram bonera mexes moretti
camoranesi davids d'allesandro nedved
del piero trezeguet/cavenaghi

28 here we come!
