Atleast thats what the media thinks. Great news, really want him to succeed. Legend.

Great news. Ganguly will give this group some fight. Hope the selectors don't chicken out.

I think you may have to explain "Dadas"
Captain fantastic. Kept Steve Waugh waiting at the toss to send the Aussies a message. Lords balcony Giggsy reincarnation. Legend.

Is it a cricketing decision or political pressure?

What's Chappels take on this news?

Backward step IMO, I would have thought they could have blooded some youngsters.

No i think its the right decision. Blooding the youngsters is what we've been doing for the last year and sometimes it comes off, other times it fails drastically. The problem lies in the degree to which you do it. What we've learnt on this series is on a tour where Indian teams have got constantly slaughtered, you cant just throw in a bunch of youngsters who have no clue about those sort of pitches. There needs to be a balance.

Its not just about Ganguly, but you need people like Kumble and Laxman on these tours who offer so much in their respective areas of specialisation. You cant just leave Sachin and Dravid to carry the team completely. As far i see youngsters are struggling with alien conditions and it makes sense to bring in people who have been there done that. Makes sense to me.

Frankly i'm not expecting much from this series even now. We get battered everytime in Sa and i think this time it has as much to do with the cohesiveness of the team as anything else. Obviously its hard for a team to enjoy itself when its losing and the media at home is roasting it but there definately seems to be a lack of leadership and direction. Whether that is to do with the Chappel Dravid leadership and the current regime not able to bring the lads together, or just a case of a number of players hitting low personal form together, i dont know. But there are worrying trends of this whole 'regime'. Theres isnt anyone talking to someone like Pathan during his run up when his line is off encouraging him, and then the strange trend of talented pacers coming in losing pace considerably in the name of line and length. That needs to be resolved. But this decision seems to have some sort of logic to it.

Dravid is out of the last two games so the team needs ganguly's leadership to hold together what has become a disjointed one day side

haven't they blooded enough youngsters recently? i think ganguly will be hungry to prove himself again. might be worth giving him a shot.

Unlike Australia India doesn’t possess a big pool of talent to choose from....Pakistan in spite of not having a structured set up has more talent but lack of proper coaching at the junior level and the disorganized cricketing set up gets reflected in the temperament of young players and they lose their ways often. At least in India the board is always there to back the players if they show some potential.

Some of these youngsters are good but still a long way to go to cut the mustard consistently at the highest level and Chappel should've realized it by now. Even the temperament of senior cricketers like Yuvraj and Kaif leaves a lot to be desired. Ability wise they should’ve don’t a lot better. Unfortunately we still need to depend a lot on the likes of Laxman, Saurav and Sachin even though they are all part their primes.

No.The young players(Kaif, Harbajhan,Yuvraj) especially look up to Ganguly as he basically played a big part partin their cricketing development. Chappel has a problem with him because of the fact that he controls the dresing roomtoo much.

Why?
Hes our most successful captain ever and really was a terrific leader. Like DE says hes the one who encouraged the youngsters and kept faith in them. He never really had issues with anyone, it was just Chappel that had issues with him and wantd him out.

ganguly has a big ego. it can't fit in the same room with chappel. and vijay, just cut it with your sachin bullshit.

Really?

Funny, I was sure Ganguly was unpopular, at least with the country...too snobbish, maybe a caste thing?

I don't reallly know shit about Indian cricket

No I was kidding..Both Chappel and Ganguly are ego manaical bastards and like to run the team their own way..

As for Ganguly's hatred its nothing to with caste..He belongs to a Royal family but maintains a cordial relationship even with communists

Its all about the rivalarly between regions..East vs West and Ganguly was made the Kings gambit.

Actually i cant think of anyone who has been unpopular with players or fans in Indian cricket, apart from Chappel. Ganguly is as popular as any other cricketer in this country and the teams rubbish performance has only elevated his status.

I think it was just a case of Ganguly completely losing form, us hiring a new coach, them not getting a long at all and hence the new man who promises glory getting the nod ahead of the captain who looks a pale shadow of his past.
