Bradley Wiggins just said on Sky that the next set would be to have a professional team from GB enter the Tour De France.

Fecking Great idea and probably what the Tour needs. The Brits won't put up with Drug cheats and even if they did, they'd still probably beat them.

Only problem is the Tour is actually a proper race and not just cycling round in circles in 'pursuit'.

Sky Sports were quick to sign up as a Sponsor of Cycling Team GB. Nice move for them.

Will be everywhere when they come home and I am sure Sky will try and turn Pursuit Racing into Showtime Speed Cycling

Good move, will make the Tour a tad more interesting personally for me. Plus will keep the team competitive for 2012.

In theory, when is the next time that a stage of the Tour oculd be hosted in Britain again?

I know we ahd it recently and that is rare, but it was by all accounts a success.

It would be hard to find 9 English cyclists that could make up a team.

Problem is, we dont have the natural terrain like in Spain, France and Italy. We would be able to do the time trials and flats, but would suffer in the mountains.

The Tour de France is a lot different than riding around a velodrome, reckon they will disappoint

Alex, the whole British cycling set up has 1 ultimate goal: a British rider to win TdF. For you information: Eddy Merckx, Berbard Hinault and Miguel Indurain were also fantastic track cyclists

Doesnt mean it will happen, who is your favorite then of this GB team

Not in the current crop so far I know. Though we do have the best sprinter (Cavendish) in cycling.
I think we're looking at 10-15 year down the road at least.
The thing is, cycling is booming in the UK. And anglo saxens for some reason seem to have the perfect mentality for cycling.
If they keep searching and investing in the sport, then eventually they will find the tour winner they are looking for.

By then we will have cloned Armstrong, and accelerated his growth so he could win more TDFs:p
