So with the rumors thay gearbox is developing Halo4 for the Xbox720(or whatever it is going to be called).
What kind of lifespan does the current generation of consoles have, I was hoping for a much longer than the previous one. Will we see the next generation showing up 2010-2011 or not untill 2015?

Well the PS3 looks to follow the PS2 in a 10 year life span. So we should expect the PS3 to last possibly up to 2016 at the latest I reckon.

The 360 isnt that much inferior to the PS3 in hardware with the exception of the DVD format, which microsoft really should of replaced with HD-DVD. So in that case I do believe Microsoft's next strategy would be to release a new console before anyone else again; I would predict that we would hear the first new details of a new microsoft console in 2-3 years time.

The Wii I'm not really too sure, in all honesty I don't count it to be a next-gen platform, but don't let Redlambs know I said that.

I think that is pretty spot on.

The next Nintendo console, will probably be similar to the Wii, with a gimmick of some sort, as I don't see them being able to compete graphically with Sony or Microsoft. That said, with the amount of money Nintendo have earned from the Wii, one would think they would be able to do some development, and invest greatly on improving graphics and the power of their next gen console.

It's not that difficult to compete with the power of either the 360 or PS3, however there's no chance Nintendo will release a new console anytime soon.

All round, I expect the next generation around 2012 +- a year.

Im sure xbox will try some lame attempt to release a console before everyone else

I have a feeling the next generation xbox is going to be at a big disadvantage if nintendo can get back to the N64 days and playstation stops pissing off developers

Neither of the Xbox's have been lame, so I doubt the next will be. Hopefully the next one won't have the capability to overheat in a freezer though. I'd like to meet the genius who thought up that one, and kick him square in the nuts.

What do you mean? Power-wise, or something else?

Sony don't exactly piss developers off as such, they just are always behind when it comes to the actual software and developer support. As Weaste has said before, they are the kings when it comes to hardware (well, that's not strictly true but I digress) but when it comes to the software and features, they are still learning.

On the topic, do you think Microsoft will strive to ensure their console is the most powerful next-gen, as they did last-gen. Or will they compromise that by looking to release alot earlier than the others.

It, so far, has all been about market share. They have managed to sneak up on Sony who were arrogant (much like Sony themselves did to Nintendo), and the next console will definitely cement their status.

The only downside in their plan is the failure-rate of the 360, however console owners are generally a fanboy bunch and so I very much doubt when it comes to the next shiny systems, that M$ will have lost any of their installed userbase.

Don't think the 360 was a compromise though, there's yet to be a PS3 game that blows the 360 out of the water. There won't be either. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The machines are evenly matched. Where one suceeds in some areas, the other does in others. It's no longer about pure pixel pushing (although it still matters more than Weaste suggests), it's more about how those pixels are pushed i.e: post-processing.
