crysis 2 xbox 360

Yes, they need to move to console development to make money, however, six year old consoles are not the place to play this.

Where is the PS3 version? Can we place safe bets that it's currently a total walking disaster?

You can't do that at the price point they are currently released at, especially considering that most games take 2 years to develop. If you are constantly changing hardware every three years, it becomes unsustainable for developers. PCs are different, as they keep the same architecture, simply adding more and more transistors and more and more cooling as they go.

Of course, as things go on, we get to the point of diminishing returns where there really is no need for new hardware at all and costs will continue to fall until we have 150 quid boxes that can do 1080p @ 60fps for all games with as many mad effects as you want. PS4 and XB720 will approach this, but the generation after that will hit it on the button. We won't need any new hardware after that.

How do you increase the performance without increasing the hardware specs Weaste?

Why would you need more performance when you are running at 1080p and 60fps with say 8x AA and 16x AF with full alpha blending? As I said, going beyond that is a case of diminishing returns, nobody would notice the difference, and when it gets to that point it's all down to the skill of the artists.

You wouldn't need it no, but 4320p will be here for the masses by 2025 (apparantly) and thats what the people will want.

People are going to need some rather ridiculous sized TVs.

It's not going to happen.

It already has happened, granted at 84 inches:

There are some other prototypes around that are smaller aswell, and also slighly lower res such as 2160p...speaking of which, heres a Sammy 82" 2160 set

I have seen a lot of hype for this, in terms of graphics, etc. You don't believe the PS3 version will be up to much?

Exactly, it will not fit in your living room.

It's a relatively new medium, and a lot of storylines in holywood blockbusters are shit anyway.

I don't have a clue, but for some reason they seem to be very guarding of the PS3 version - they won't show the bloody thing. Either it's sub-par to the XB360 version, or it blows the XB360 version away.

You won't need new hardware as it will all be 'cloud' gaming.

Whichever company can first deliver and build a platform around (and I'm sure that even Apple are aware of this) a system with specifications and a price within the ballpark of what I have described will win this long term struggle for the living room. It will then all be down to the software. I think this is why Sony went crazy with their initial ideas for PS3. They didn't hit that 1TFLOP Cell, a GPU with two 1080p outputs (think 3D), etc. But they went for it.

The challenge after that is to get the thing smaller and smaller until you have a 5" handheld device and a docking station for it that plugs into the TV. You take it on the go, you come home, plug it into the dock, and then use it like a PC or PS3/XB360/Wii. Whoever gets that out first is the winner, it's then game over, the rest become software publishers.

Unfortunately this going to the consoles means it won't be as pretty as they could have made it. Mind you, it will probably still be the prettiest thing around.

And as for the "PC gaming is dead"... eeh, you know what, feck it, I can't be arsed. Yeah. PC gaming is dead. Now go play Halo 3.

The first picture looks like a piece of crap that every electronics company churned out in the early 90's when entry cost's into the console market were low.

The bottom photo is apple tv. What evidence is there that apple wants to develop anything but a hand-held games machine?

To be fair apple have always been, and still are, the product choice of the gays. They're from San Fran ffs.
