Crysis 2 will 'max out' PS3 tech

Cevat Yerli, Crytek CEO, has suggested that the upcoming game Crysis 2 will for the most part max out the PS3's technology.

Yerli says the performance analysis of the game shows full occupation of the CPUs, the Cell, and the GPUs, adding there is very little more they could push.

His quote directly: "The interesting thing is we did run a performance analysis on the PS3 devkit, and you know the funny thing is the occupation on all the CPUs, the Cell and the GPUs, is pretty much – the needle is at the limit."

"There’s not much more you can do," he added, "and frankly the breakthrough was very recent, and otherwise we would’ve had a compromised strategy on the consoles, which we don’t have now."

Crysis 2 is coming to consoles. As for the maxing out part, it's all rather P.R blurb. MGS4 was supposed to have been doing the same, so is FFXIII. Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 don't do it.

Here's the view of Criterion:

Digital Foundry: There was a lot of talk at this E3 about "maxing out" the current hardware.

Alex Fry: Well, there always is, isn't there... it's nothing new. You hear it all the time... we've maxed out, we're the best.

Richard Parr: That's proof there that you're not the best. It means you're out of ideas.

Alex Fry: You always find new ways to do things, the constraints lift. Not just with a new console generation but with every game you do. Whether it's a sequel or whether it's a new game, you learn to do things differently... better. The constraints go away because you learn. While it's nice to say you've maxed something out, there's not really any point.

Richard Parr: We started Black with tech that we'd used with Burnout 3 and were starting to use with Revenge and when we got to the end of it, it's not like we hadn't learned anything. We could've carried on learning about those consoles, we could still be learning today. We just went off and learned different stuff on PS3 and 360 instead.
 
So they must have optimized the new Crysis because i thought the original crysis turned up enough would melt the PS3....it certainly still makes high specced modern PC's break down in tears if you try and max all the graphics out

Crysis wasn't optimized in the slightest hence why it tore pcs apart. They then decided to optimise it and then release it again as warhead (produced in a different branch).

I believe they've tweaked the particle and shader system (which was causing the majority of the issues). I hope they release this time with all the modtools updated.
 
You can't actually max Crysis out because max setting's of Crysis is actually a virus which makes the computer think it can't play the game on max settings.

I'm pretty sure a dual HD4850XCRossfire 6GBCrossfire Ram, a Quad-Core 12mb cache 4trillion GHZ 250gbraptor harddriver could smoke it.

Then again I just made most of those components up so.

I run it on the highest setting, with the community 'ultra settings' installed.

It is a beautiful game, but there are alot of faults with the games graphics. Too many really to list and I don't think Crysis 2 will be much of an improvement tbh.
 
If Crysis Warhead was tweaked to run faster it was the laziest bit of tweaking i'd ever come across.

At the same settings, i got at 1-2 extra fps than original Crysis....and thats being generous
