Lazio talks with United

Manchester United are in advanced negotiations with Lazio and Hernan Crespo's representatives.

According to Italian sources, United want to wrap up a deal for the Argentine as quickly as possible and Lazio are already lining up a replacement in Fiorentina striker Enrico Chiesa.

Lazio officials will continue talks with United over the weekend, though the Rome club will have to lower their asking price - which is currently £29 million.

More 'news' on Crespo 'talks'...

United in talks over Crespo deal
By Peter Fitton

Manchester United are being offered a cash-free plan to sign Argentina striker Hernan Crespo for the Champions League.
Negotiators for financially stricken Italian club Lazio have drawn up the proposal. Sir Alex Ferguson last night confirmed that he wants to recruit another front player alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Gustavo Mascardi, agent for Crespo and fellow countryman Juan Sebastian Veron, and Pini Zahavi - record purchase Rio Ferdinand's adviser - are understood to be involved in the deal for the 26-year-old star.

Serie A Lazio still owe United close to £12m following the signing of Jaap Stam from Old Trafford a year ago. Now they are proposing that outstanding debt is swallowed up by the release of Crespo to United before the European deadline on August 31.

Lazio are also prepared to spread the rest of Crespo's fee - around £10m - and allow it to be paid in instalments over three years beginning next summer. United are to consider the option this week.

At least it wont involve veron.

And we could default on our debt. ;)

This crespo deal does sound the most likely of all the stories.

Duff isn't coming. Not for 20 million +
Vassel, I don't think Fergie will even bother looking in his direction.
Gudjohnson, yes please - but again may prove too costly

Anything that could involve LESS "DIRECT $ PAYMENT" will be the most likely under current situation ... so if Crespo is anything like 8mil extra payment (20-12) by next season then it's possible ...

The doubts though ... are :

(1) Lazio broke the bank to get Crespo previously ... and how could they sell him for 20mil now ??! make no sense ...

(2) Who else Lazio has in their front line after Crespo ? ... Lopez and ?? ... why will Lazio put themselves in such a difficult situation .. ? they are suppose to fight back the crown this year ...

1) Because Lazio need to sell and if they sell Crespo they get rid of the debt to us too.

2)Lazio will replace Crespo with Chiesa. At least that is whats planned.

(a) but not to the extend of losing 15mil ( think they bought him for 35mil ) in a year ?!

(b) Chiesa has just got back to fitness ... after out for almost a year ... Him and Lopez are both not really target man ... I do remember Lazio still have somebody else in their frontline ... anybody could enlighten ?

And also... Sven Gøran Eriksson recommended Veron to become a red devil. He also bought Crespo...

This deal almost sound to good - if its true - that Lazio supposedly are willing to offer United a payment plan, fix the debt from Stam and send us Crespo...

Sure hopes this is true. Veron/Crespo would become the hit of the year...

Anyone care to fill us in on the situation on Lazio? HAve they managed to present a budget/money plan or have they been forced to sell players?

Crespo:
"Since we arrived here last week I have started to enjoy my football again. The behaviour of the Derby County fans after we had beaten them 2-1 on Monday night really made an impression on me. ll the fans were applauding and cheering their team off, even though they had lost the game. This is something that would never happen in Italy and it is an aspect of the game that I miss. However, I do not want this to be interpreted as a declaration of my wish to move to Manchester United"

In what context? Was he being asked about United? If he wasn't that seems to be the only purpose of making such a statement!

Now that I think of it. It DOES sound like Crespo. When the Argies played Brazil in the quals, everyone was going on about how they were taking it for granted they would win.

He just walked into the press conference and started blabbing away about how seriously they took Brazil, etc. before the reporters even had the chance to ask a single question. Later that day Argentina lost their only game in the qualifiers after a woeful performance.

Mmmmm.

But then, Lazio are not a lot better -or richer- than Derby, are they Piersifal?

Sorry for you, we can buy half Brazil. How much do you cost? Cragnotti also owns Bombril, so if you want to keep your house clean, wash your mouth before speaking of Lazio. Got me?

Not Brazilian so don't mind. But then, Brazil is worth a lot more than Bombril. Keep the gung ho attitude, it will be funny to see you in C2 next year.

I always liked that film, Gilliams a genius, which hallf would you buy Percy?

Lazio will get relegated this season as there squad will either leave of their own volition or be sold to decrease their debt burden.
