Fergie in for Crespo?

Sounds doubtful as he wants to play in Spain but I read somewere that he is best mates with Seba so, who knows eh?

The report is on the beeb too.

Btw, I was dead-on re: his valuation ;)

If SAF want to buy Crespo for 35mil . The board must prepare at least 60mil to buy 1 stiker and 2 defenders. The attack and defence will get balance and more aggresive. That make Utd the best team in Europe

not I !

Nor I. It would be madness.

Apparantly, United have dismissed the Crespo rumours.

forget abt him ... unless he fight with the Lazio chairman tomorrow and broke his nose ... that the old man got too mad and want Man Utd just pay 10mil and escot him out of LAZIO

else his price tag itself will be a no no no ..

Let's not forget that it's not just the ability of a player that determines their value, but also their marketability and how much extra revenue they would bring to the club, ala Beckham. It's the age of the PLC. ;)

Now, while Crespo would be a great addition, do we really need him?? Yes, he is a great goalscorer, but United need to concentrate on defensive purchases next summer (and not Hofland).

Defense is undoubtedly the priority and Fergie has even addressed that in the media. I wonder though if a couple of defensive stand outs AND a Crespo type forward will come in. Lets face it, the Nike deal is gonna inject a lot of cash into the coffers so maybe it could be another big summer spending spree! Does anyone know the intricacies of the Nike deal? Like how much moulah up front etc. I guess it's around £25m per year right?

Well, even if a massive spending spree is possible, the defense should be sorted out before any 35 million pound striker is gone after.

Fergie wants £35m Crespo
By NEIL CUSTIS

MANCHESTER UNITED have told Lazio: We want Hernan Crespo.

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to splash another British transfer record of around £35MILLION to land the Argentine international striker.

And partnering last season's Serie A top scorer with Dutch destroyer Ruud van Nistelrooy would have United's domestic and European rivals quaking in their boots.

Boss Ferguson has shown with his captures of £28.1m Juan Veron and £19.8m Van Nistelrooy that he is not afraid to spend massively to put his club at the top of the football tree.

Now agents acting on the Old Trafford giants' behalf have informed Lazio that the Premiership title-holders intend to try to add 26-year-old Crespo to their list of big guns.

Lazio may insist on getting Veron in exchange. But United want to keep the midfield master so he can team up with his close friend and international colleague over here.

Ferguson attended last week's Rome derby. Initially, it was thought he was spying on defender Alessandro Nesta. In fact, he went to see Crespo in action.

Ferguson wants another top striker on his books, following the departure of Andy Cole and the imminent exit of Dwight Yorke.

He could hardly do better than Crespo, who joined Lazio last season from Parma for £35m and finished up with 26 goals. This season he has hit 18 in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Rome side and recently voiced his unease at the state of the club.

Crespo is now ready to leave after he and his team-mates were besieged by irate fans at the club's training ground following their 5-1 derby hammering by Roma.

Yorke is poised to join Aston Villa for a knockdown £5m in the close season, while Juan Pablo Angel will quit Villa Park for Spain.

United will continue to rely on the ever-faithful Ole Solskjaer as front-line back-up and also have Uruguayan new boy Diego Forlan to call on.

well it is the sun, so....make whatever you want out of it...

The money that Lazio owe United on the Stam deal could sway any transfer in Uniteds favour. Juventus are also interested in Crespo, according to the italian press.

Nesta and Crespo almost certainly will move on in the summer... (according to a lazio agent on skysports...)
