Crazy schedule

I think the program is really crazy at the end of the year in England, and it's strange that the players accept that. Only Emmanuel Petit had complained against the calendar a few years ago, and I think he was right. Not only the players don't have any respite , but there are even more games . The players need a rest from time to time, ours play the champion's league, most of them will be at the World Cup. The foreign players can't go back in their country to celebrate Christmas and the New Year's day with their family...
This crazy calendar could explain why England often fails in the international competitions...Your players are too tired at the end of the year...

They're getting paid well enough so 50 - 60 games a season shouldnt be too much to ask,
They're not the only ones who didnt get home for Christmas either :( and if they didnt like it they could change career and see how much time off they get then.

In France, Italy or Spain they have a rest and they are well paid too. It has nothing to do with how much they are paid. Me too I wasn't at home for Christmas, but I won't play the World Cup at the end of the year. You have to take care of the players'health, that's all.

yeah but their still getting paid an awful lot of money and most of em never need to work again after the age of 35yrs and could basically retire or good if they wer'nt so greedy.

That's not the problem ! The problem is that if the players are tired in April or May for the important games, the champion's league or in June for the World Cup, then don't complain. The money is ANOTHER problem ! They earn a lot in Italy or Spain too !

Squad rotation means that the top players dont play that many games, look at Veron or Beckham , both will be well fit for the WC.
They also get three or four match free weeks before the WC. A winter break in England would suck, football is part of Christmas for me.

football in england is no game for pussies .. its been like this for decades and why should we change it just cos some foreigners moan in the press yet again?

Yes, be conservative, go on with your traditions, even if they are stupid, and don't be surprised if the players are tired at the end of the season...I maintain that players need a rest during the season. If there is a break in other countries, it's not for nothing.

It may nice for the players to get two weeks off in winter but they do not need it. Playing winter football in England is just another part of what makes it so original and challenging and i hop ethey dont change it as Christmas would suddenly be very boring :(

I think they need it. In France we can't believe it when we see the program. I know, you don't care about what we think in France. If traditions were never changed, we would still live like during the Middle age. Don't be so conservative.

Peter Schmeichel himself had given an interview where he said he had gone to Portugal because he needed to spend some days with his family. He said : all these years on the run, with never a week-end off, I needed a championship more quiet. And you'll admit he's not a "pussy", to speak like Jens.

I cant imagine a single paying football fan that would want the winter break. Christmas football is normally very exciting and can change the face of a season, i remember Utd drawing 3 all at Sheff Wed on Stephens day a few yrs back. This seasons Christmas schedule also looks like its going to be decisive.

Just because you dont change things doesnt mean your conservative, they're still playing with a round ball after over a hundred years, is it conservative that they havnt moved over to a square or oval ball?

May be it's good for the fans, but it isn't good for the players. Although last year I missed all the games played at that period, because I was with my family and they don't have Canal plus(required to see foreign games in France), so I was even more angry against that schedule.

If the games were played later in January it would be the same. They could be as decisive as they are now.

I'm not denying it's exiting, but a journalist said that if England often failed in final phases it was because of their program. And now we have a lot of French players in the Premiership, and if they're tired this summer I will know why !
It's just a question of wisdom. They may earn a lot of money but they're still human beings.

Maybe thats why Ireland never won the WC either, our players too knackered from playing in the tough English season. Or maybe its because like England were not very good ;) .
It is a bit unfair that other leagues have it a break and vice versa but i would prefer to see the Italians etc play over winter instead of us taking a break. The summer break is painfull enough without having a football break in the middle of the dark cold winter :(
