In the spirit of teh Arsenal switcharound:

- Petit: defender to a midfileder.
- Henry: winger to striker.

Anyone think that Fortune would be a good LB?

Good at going forward, good and tackling back.
Don't ask me about Mr Silvestre. He seems to think he should be a Centre Back.

Believe it or not, I thought about that last season but didn't dwell on it too long. I doubt he's ever played back there and I doubt SAF has any intention of trying him back there either.

BTW, this Arsenal switcharound, I thought that was a changing room secret down there at Highbury! ;)

As mentioned, Micky doesn't think that he should "only" be a left back and with due respect to Phil, although Irwin pulled it off, I'd rather have a left-footed left-back any day.

If Micky is happy as a LB, this would of course be moot.

I was just emploring possibilities for Fortune since there have been rumblings of him being let go and I thought that it would be shame to let a talent like him go, without exploring other possibilities.

Isn't Fortune as CM rather innovative too? He's been used as a LW for United and South Africa from what I've seen.

I've always had my suspicions about Petit.

Any wide midfielder should be able to play full back,

Keane, Beckham, Sharpe have all played full back and its a position that young players should be blooded into first as it is a relatively easy place to play.
I think Fortune should be tried in the reserves @ full back to see if he can manage it, not all players can, David May for example was a disaster there.

feck no!

Doesn't anyone remember a couple of seasons back where he was brought on as a sub and then taken off not long after following some horrendous defending in the Dynamo Kiev game? You know, the one where that fella missed that easy chance that would have put us out of the CL in the first round? That my friends, was Fortune at LB.

feck no.

Don't tell me what he thinks of himself. Me juz think he should keep his mouth shut and juz do what's required of him, instead of whinging to the press every now and then. ;)

I thought we were going to lose him because he has not played sufficient internationals to get/keep a work permit (non EU players).

I have always thought that Q. fortune is a little dodgy on defence. Its not his strength but it would not hurt to learn a little. Maybe a few games in the reserves at LB is not that bad.

For South Africa he also plays on the wing but has been given central midfield role at times. However, due to his weaker defensive qualities he has not kept the position. He prefers coming in which he does more naturally for SA because of their style of play but for Utd there are already quite a few players who love the central berth.....

I think he has played well for SA in this WC because he fears his national place may be in jeopardy. In Nomvete and Zuma, SA have some nice youngsters.

Utd should think about trading QF for Zuma who is far more skilful and fast. ;) <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />
