Rebel fans march to support players

Monday, 4 February 2008
Several thousand Cork GAA supporters have taken part in a march through the streets of Cork city in protest at the dispute which is jeopardising the county's participation in this year's national leagues and championship competitions.
The march drew a much bigger crowd than had been expected and there was overwhelming support for the players.
Earlier, the GAA issued a press release stating that should the footballers not fulfil their next league fixture against Dublin on 16 February, they will be automatically disqualified from the football league.

Likewise should the hurlers not field a team for two consecutive games the same fate will be awarded.

c'mere I want ya, who do you think is right on this one at the end of the day like ?

They should be fecked out of the league as it is, never mind waiting until after the Dublin match. You can't go around calling off matches because you can't get your act together, then expect to play them when you're ready. They should be out the door now.

It'll be interesting to see ultimately how far they'll go with it. Is there a chance Holland could pick another panel of players and play away with them....for the league anyway?

I distinctly remember in the 80's a league semi-final, Cork V's Dublin, it was a draw at full time so both teams were advised that there would be another 20mins extra-time....

Cork complained that they were never told beforehand that extratime would ensue in the result of a draw

they protested by not coming out for extra time

Barney Rock scored into an empty net after the throw-in

you mocking us there jackeen?

what a messed up situation, to put it mildly.
I can see this season being a non starter for Cork. If that's what it takes to sort out this mess then so be it.

Of course Keane16 would like that as Kerry will have a free ride out of Munster ;)

 we could use a bit of help getting out of our province alright.

Seriously though...the Director General of the GAA, the Labour Relations Commission, a live link up to Donal Óg Cusack on Primetime...did you ever hear such a load of bollix in your life? They should be nowhere near a league match until they can stop being drama queens and get 15 grown ups to play for them. Full points for everyone, Cork relagated. Would they be doing the same if Longford or Limerick rang up and said they couldn't put out a team...any chance you can put the league back a week and shur, we'll see how we're fixed then? I doubt it somehow.

I remember that....was wishing him to put it wide.

out of curiosity, how did that play out? would have been brilliant if they had got a succession of frees for cork's "timewasting"!

Dublin won, I think.

Are Cork training away all the time or what? I mean, all this talk of not playing in the Championship...if they're not on schedule with their training, they won't be bothering the serious teams anyway. The Teddy Holland thing is interesting. I remember the players saying a few weeks ago that it was nothing personal on Teddy, but he shouldn't have been appointed...that has hardened to them now refusing to play under Teddy and that's the main stumbling block.

I wonder how far it will go. I'd like to see it stretch to the summer, just for the novelty of it. Are the minor teams involved as well?

heard something yesterday.

For rent at a discount rate: good land in Cork for hay/silage or grazing. For details apply to Parc Ui Chaoimh.

Kinda screw up the Munster Final, wouldn't it?

Kerry need a serious challenge just to kick-start the 36th.
If they end up getting some piss-poor team instead, they won't have sharpened up enough, I reckon.
