Why is this so bloody hard to do?

They can put a man on the moon but there is no simple way of converting a bunch of AVI files into a format that I can burn onto a DVD which my DVD player will happily play.

If I am wrong and there is a easy way to do this please help me.

I use WinAVI.Does the trick

Might be an *ahem* cracked version floating around somewhere

Any burning software does it.

Use Nero.

Tried it with Nero....its a bloody nightmare(might have gotten better with a newer version)

If you can handle it taking the best part of 2-3 hours then by all means use nero

I always hated Nero.

Any other software you could recommend me then?

What version do you have? Admittedly it does take a while for me (about an hour). That's with Nero 7 or 8.

I think it was 6....and granted i suppose i was converting using my work laptop which aint even close to top of the range.

but even with that laptop i can convert AVI to VOB in WinAVI in about 20 mins so far better in my opinion.

Plus none of this converting wizard crap....just select the AVI, select the output folder then convert....you can even watch the preview as its running along allthough its like watching something in fast forward

Sounds good, I'll give it a try.

ConvertXtoDVD is best out there in terms of speed/quality balance. Nero's the best for reliability though.

I use ConvertXtoDVD too. Really straightforward and does a great job.

Well, my first trial run using DVDSanta went pretty well. A two hour film took just over an hour to convert, the picture and sound are much better than I expected (about as good as a very good VCR recording).

The "Get the full version for $29.99" message dissapears after 5 minutes as well. I can live with that.

What I really want to do is get a few episodes of a programme onto 1 disk with a menu. I'll try that now and let you all know (I can imagine you are all staying up for this one).

Just finished trying ConvertXtoDVD.

Much quicker than DVDSanta (same file took about half the time), quality the same as far as I can tell.

There is a watermark that flashes up every 2 minutes telling you to buy an unlock key which makes the DVD unwatchable. I might buy it, going to try WINAVI now.
