Contracts

Apparently that's just the 'default' length of contract for players that they weren't sure when their contract was up.

Manchester United rookie Josh King has signed a new contract at the club, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2013.

The striker was sweating on a new deal with his existing contract up this summer, but United have moved to end any doubts over his future by giving him the new deal.

King, a Norway Under-19 international, spent time on loan at Preston last year and is a regular for the United reserves and seen as one for the future at Old Trafford.

Dissapointed King got no real playing time with the first team since he come back from loan.

He really needs to work on his finishing to become a top player. He's far too wasteful currently.

That sort of fits the United-profile! Well - apart from Hernandez of course

I don't quite see where we could have afforded to play him. Against Blackpool, obviously, and Schalke at home perhaps, but then hindsight is 20/20. He's been very hot and cold of late too, though that's probably down to him playing mainly in an unfamiliar position.

It's difficult to stay on top of the first team contracts, never mind the youth and reserves lads!

Will look at updating now.

I'll add some translations from the Noggy Dagbladet article:

He's had the offer for some time, but it's been important for him to monitor the situation. The signals from the club are very good, he's very much wanted, and they have a great deal of faith in him. That means it became a solid choice in the end, said his agent, Jim Solbakken

The competition for the spots in United is, naturally, tough, but the youngsters development has been so good that the possibilities of first team duty next season are promising, the agent opines.

He likes competition, and now it's only a matter of continuing the development he's already had. The salary isn't the most important thing, he's going for what's best for as him in the sport. But he'll be earning what he deserves.

Makes it seem like he might get a chance to show his temperament outside of the CC.

Simply was no room for him - we have Lindegard and probably de Gea - in addition both Amos and Johnstone are too old for academy-football. And there is no point having 5 young goalkeepers in a club.

I almost expect Amos to go next season as well - maybe just on loan - but there is no way we will have 3 goalkeepers that all are registered on the 25-man rule. Amos is still young enough not to be registered this season - but as of next season - he won't be playing for us unless we lose either Lindegard or de Gea

Well if PIG stays then we will have 3 goalkeepers registered in the 25 man squad. There will be plenty of space to accommodate PIG if we both want him to stay and can persuade him to stay.

Do we need him? He's an average keeper whom despite his age he has yet to learn how to handle crosses. Not to forget his constant moaning of not being given a first team chance.

PIG wont stay. Why would we want him to stay, and moan everyday.. And why would he stay as third choice keeper.. He will sign for a bottom league club, like West Brom..

I take for granted that he wont. It is just stupidity to have 3 registered goalkeepers. Better to have 2 and one talented young one - who is not likely to play - but who is good enough to do well if called upon

Well the main reason for keeping him would be that the other two/three keepers have virtually no experience of playing for Manchester United.

Well if you have a talented young keeper who you'd be happy to play in the first team then that's fine but I'm not sure whether we consider Amos to be quite good enough for that level yet.

I really don't see why it's stupid to have three registered goalkeepers in the 25 man squad. The majority of PL clubs registered three keepers last season, ourselves included from January onwards after Lindegaard joined. If you only have two senior keepers then it only takes one injury and of all of a sudden you're scrambling around looking for some cover.

Yes DDG is under the age limit which means he need not be registered..

He will for the Champions League squad which is arguably the one to keep in mind given the slightly stricter regulations. Jones will have to be registered in that squad too.

But aren't we sorted for that? We should open new threads on the PL and CL squads..

If you include Young and De Gea then we currently have 27 players who would need to be registered in order for them to be available for the CL. It's not really an issue though given that Brown, Gibson, Obertan and Diouf will probably leave. Then there's O'Shea and Cleverley as other possible departures but you could keep both of them as well as PIG and still have two places available for further signings.

something wrong about this thread. shows up on the forums page but not in the United forum or the main page.

That is because its in the Sub-forum: Reserve/Youth Forum - RedCafe.net

As you are normally the best updated.. Please go ahead and make a thread..
