Ok after my ps3 decided to YLOD precisely 42 days ago...ive nearly enough to get another! Only this time i am going slimline!

For you console boyos out there....any insurance you recommend taking out on it that you may have for yourselves and represents value?

Yeah, the new generation of consoles are a bit shit. Save the money for insurance and use it to buy about 20 desk fans. Then suspend your console from the ceiling and use the fans to blow air all over the thing while you are using it.

What's with all the console slander redlambs? The current generation consoles have probably been the most innovative ever.

Its brought gaming to the masses, with the Wii. I also don't think any game ever has ever had as larger fan base as COD.

Really, what innovations did the last generation of consoles make?

Typical soggy, fail to get the point. In the other thread I was saying the fella with limited budget who wants to play games all summer might as well pick up the last generation of consoles and tons of games.

In this thread I'm saying the PS3 and 360(especially) are generally not built brilliantly. Also insurance for them is a scam.

Comprende?

Buy insurance, which one? I have no idea, but it's worth every penny (in my opinion).

I bought a fat PS3 on launch day from Argos and took out the £40 3 year insurance. Last september (about the time the Slim released) the PS3 refused to connect to the PSN. The PSP connected perfectly and after beng told by Sony I'll need to pay £128 for a 'new' console (refurbished probably) I decided to call the insurance people.

They sent a package to collect the PS3, after 10-14 days they sent me an Argos electronic voucher, the value of £425 (cost of the fat PS3) because they couldn't fix the fault! I used that to buy the Slim PS3 and still have about £140 left for games.

Bottom line, if you can get cheap insurance it's definitely worth it.

Thats exactly why im looking it. It extends your warranty by a year to an instant exchange voucher(for most places) the average 60gb PS3 or Xbox doesnt seem to be going past the age of 3 (Except Weastes)

My ps3 is now out of warranty and now defunct.

Use some common sense here, buying insurance for every individual gadget in your house is costly but really stupid.

Anything you have will be included all on your contents insurance, same with mobile phones. So don't waste your money & just get a good contents insurance policy.

This is just for one item, if i can make ONE one-off payment or some small payments for a limited period of time i would be content.

I checked the contents insurance, and was told by more than one company that it would cost an extra £5-10 a month and be continuous payment. Contents insurance only benefits if you have a housefire or a flood or something. For individual items it is crap and basically costs
