Just watched it and thought it was a great film.

Sound track was really good also.

Michael Mann films usually are.

I also like the way that Cruise's character was fairly bang-on with the way he handled his gun (I especially like the quick draw manoeuvre that he pulls off in the alley). I have always wondered if Andy MacNab did the action choreography for this movie, as he did with Heat, as the action scenes seem very realistic.

I've never seen Heat, I'm guessing it's pretty damn good ?

Heat is my favourite movie of all time, also by Michael Mann

It's in my top 10, have you seen his original version, LA Crimewave? (LA Takedown, alt tite)

There was one scene that I think worked better in this original version. The plot from Heat and Crimewave was based on a true story, about a cop that Mann knew. In real life he was chasing a bad guy for ages, and one day apparently they just bumped into each other in the street. Instead of kicking off in a crowded area, they went for coffee and had a chat.

In Heat they have the coffee in that famous scene, but Pachino follows De Niro and he then asks him to go for a drink. In the original it happens like it did in real life. I liked that, although more improbable (yet oddly more true) it seemed to work really well.

Interesting. I didn't know this. I love that scene. I will seek out the original

I particularly love the scene where Pacino and his boys realise they are being watched by DeNiro and his boys. Dunno why, I just do

Yeah, it's Pachino's reaction that makes it cool I guess - when they start to form that admiration for each other.

But there are loads of great scenes in that movie, I guess you can't really go wrong with such a fantastic cast. Everyone performs, all the way from the bit part players like Tom Noonan and John Voight to the main characters of Tom Sizemore, Dennis Haysbert and of course the two leads.

It just shades it as my fave Mann movie over Manhunter, in which Petersen and Noonan are brilliant.

Even Val Kilmer's good in this film. Jesus

I liked Manhunter, but Heat is better

Love the shoot out in the club Fever, the sound track is superb, and the digital cameras make the night shots of LA look gorgeous.

 I almost typed that sentiment myself.

I recently saw the extended version of Manhunter, which included a small scene at the very end of the movie which added an extra dimension of poignancy to Will Graham's character.

If you get the chance to see that version check it out.

Collateral and Heat are both pretty damn ordinary IMO. Both are quite forgettable.

Michael Manns directio made Collateral watchable but the premise is ridiculous. Is Vincent the name of the character Cruise plays? Has to be the stupidest hitman imaginable.

I found this film a bit boring. Is there any particular reason why everyone else seems to think it was really great?
