Carrick is no better than Butt or even Fortune.
Cole is a <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> - better suited to Liverpool.
But i'd have no problem with Defoe.

None. I used to think of Defoe quite highly but he seems to have missed a ton of chances for West Ham in the past few weeks.

I would take Defoe he looks like he could be quality, i think it is importnant to keep a balance with british players so Defoe would help there. Cole not sure he burst onto the seen but this season has been tough for him, we have fletcher who is simular and free so just defoe for me

Carricks too light weight (at the moment)

Yes, Johnson looks very promising, still 18 I think. We have some good youth fullbacks so I don't know if we would make a move for Johnson now, but he looks good; aggressive, quick and good with the ball.

Don't think the other 'ammers are quite good enough for United yet; Cole, Carrick. DeFoe is skillful little forward, who might turn out a star.

Defoe -- depends on how much. can take it for less than 4m.

Besides, I also agree with some people that Johnson is a nice player, may be more suitbale for us than the 3 players mentioned in the caption. He has impressed me with his solid display and comfortable on the ball. Can be our future RB.
