Clubs stockpiling players

Do you think due to the likes of Barca, Madrid and Shitty trying to stockpile the worlds best players to prevent them from going to rival clubs that UEFA will eventually crack down on it?

I mean if you have two recognized quality players per position who where obtained at a certain value within a certain time frame would making it a requirement that the third player in that position be a homegrown player be the way to go?

I remember Milan in the late 80's and most of the 90's trying to buy every decent fecker up in the planet just to prevent rivals doing so. Madrid are probably worst at it now and Citeh certainly do like to target our supposed targets.

I would be in favour of this, if it was ever cracked down but only if the stupid 90 minute rule in the UK was abolished.

No, I think they are trying to make sure the competition is always high and keeping the cream of the crop. Those who dont make the grade are then sold off

My people have an old saying

"Nah"

Its not really just them though is it? All the top top clubs do it, the CL clubs. A good couple of seasons from a team outside that clique will earn a move for that player and preserve the status quo.

Don't really see how you can stop it tbh.

We've the 2 best wingers in the PL and we just bought the 3rd best one. Does that mean we're not doing things fairly?

Barca have a really really small squad, I don't think we can tar them with this brush.

And I doubt that clubs buy players purely to prevent rivals from having them.

The big clubs in italy always bought up talent just to prevent their rivals from getting them, not so much nowdays, but it sure happens.

Surely the 25-man squad rule is already preventing this? (To a certain extent anyway). No point signing players if you can't use them.

In short. No.

Anyone who genuinely thinks that that Man City only buy players because we want them are mad. United and City (as well as umpteen other clubs) are generally in for the same players because they're extremely talented footballers and they'll make a difference to the side. Usually said player has probably been watched extensively by any number of clubs - especially if they're young and highly rated.

Football is a squad game and clubs need two players for every position at least in a 50 game season.

Also, who on earth would decide the definition of a "quality player"? What about young players who don't cost a lot, or players out of contract?

What you're suggesting puts me in mind of sports where you have a salary cap, thereby meaning that any club can only generally have a few top players at any one time.

I heard a theory that City were buying so many players so they could sell them on and keep their books balanced when FFP came in.

Wouldn't want to see it. Such is life that some teams get better players.

Bayern has been snatching up the best German talent since I can remember. The other clubs just go on producing their own and finding new talent.

I said the third player in each position should be homegrown..read properly

How would this be policed?

Other than Keepers you could argue that any player played in any position and simply play him wherever you liked.

I never said it would be easy, I would imagine having players listed in no more than two positions..as in midfielder and defender not LM or LB. After all how many players are there that can play in more than three areas of the field..except for the magnificent John O'Shea :D

Are you a fan of extensive bureaucracy, spending their time enforcing subjective regulations?

Alright, but what if a team claims they will play with 3 centre backs? Or 4 central midfielders? Will they be punished if they field a different formation?

no not if a player or players are listed in as a defender and a mid for instance
Phil Jones would be listed right now as a 2nd choice defender and 2nd choice midfielder. Im not setting this thing up Im just asking if its a valid way to go forward. Personally I want it all to lead us back to getting the best kids from the UK and Ireland and moulding them in our academy!

I think it would be impossible.

A club could just list a player as a right back and then play him in any position on the pitch.
