Is he actually an actor? Meaning, can he act? I have the impression he wears the same clothes, has the same hair cut and what's worse the same facial expressions in every movie he has made so far. There's a new movie coming out next year, "The International", again no transformation, it's all the same!

Good actor just tends not go outside of he's comfort zone so far. I don't know if he ever will to be honest. It's still worth seeing Inside Man and children of men to see whether that changes your mind about him always playing the same characters.

I do however still get the impression when seeing him that without a couple of lucky turns in he's career he might be in a daytime soap opera. Not because of he's acting abilty, he just has one of those faces.:)

Didnt like him in Inside Man but Children of Men was much better. The thing is that even sleezy guys like Brad Pitt did some good stuff like Kalifornia or 12 Monkeys. Or Leonardo Di Caprio, no matter how childish he looks he did stuff like Gilbert Grape or the Aviator.

I think Clive Owen is capable to do much better stuff but it's as you said the stepping out of his comfort zone I guess.

He's a right arrogant twat as well. Had the displeasure of meeting him at a wedding a few years a go that my then girlfriend was catering for.

As you say they didn't change your mind then I guess nothing he's done to date will(perhaps cropier but maybe not).

It is however a little unfair to compare him to pitt and di caprio. Firstly because as a brit who found fame in he's mid 30's he cannot cherry pick roles like those guys. Secondly because he must have quite a body of film work before croupier which goes largely ignored.

Think of somebody like Christain Bale(who was admittedly a child star and far better actor) who has quite often been character typed as a cold disconected character for the most part of he's hollywood career. Would Bale be offered any mainstream role that broke this mould when their are clooney's and pitt's and di caprio's queing up for the same roles?

I'd say no. However you could certainly compare Bale's career to Owen's and say that Bale has obviously chosen much more challenging roles and is all the better for it.

Are you sure you weren't just at home watching The Extras?

Thought he should have won that Oscar for Closer. Great performance, that, better than fecking Morgan Freeman in Million Dollar Baby anyway. Shame about the rest of the film (Except Portman obviously )

Otherwise he is a bit wooden

I love Closer, I think its because it has some quality quotes.

But i went in expecting it to be average which is why i liked it prob.
