'tis a silly place
Midfeilder Claudio Reyna has signed from Glasgow Rangers to Sunderland for £4,000,000.
The US Midfeilder will get some great experaince before the World Cup - whether it will prove useful for the USA is another matter entirely.

Good Move and £4,000,000 is a terrific price.Reyna, who has signed a five year deal, said: "I'm just glad to finally complete the move because it has been ongoing for a while. I'm still a bit out of it because it's been a long night but it was a great way to leave Rangers.

"I said my goodbyes to all the lads and it was pretty emotional - they were great with me. This is a fantastic opportunity and challenge for me. I'm ambitious to play in the Premiership and I've joined a club with great support and capable of going places. "

Reyna is set to train with his new team-mates on Saturday and revealed he is desperate to feature in Sunday's televised clash at the Stadium of Light against Chelsea.

"It's a fantastic game and I'd love to be involved," he said. "I haven't spoken to the manager about it so we'll have to wait and see."

To the Rangers he was "Captain America," but, thanks to the US media's apparent hatred of association football, Claudio Reyna, captain of the US National team, is essentially unknown at home. Perhaps a few of our locals will actually spend the time to see him and the rest of the guys play a few World Cup matches next summer.

Anelka might b cuming 2 sunderland aswell????? <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

where did you hear this??? why would they risk signing him...might as well get stan collymore as well.

Good move for Reyna, better competition week in week out  , best American in the Prem now, Joe-Max is shite for Everton.

I do not think a manager like Sunderland's Peter Reid would be the type to go for a player like Nic Anelka, with the risk and unwanted add-ons you get with him.
He would cost an extremely large amount, considering they have just speant for £4,000,000 and I doubt Paris Saint-German would let him go for less than £16,000,000 at best. The guy has not been producing since he left Arsenal in 1999 when Real madrid snapped him up for a ludicrous price of £21,000,000 which was absolutely over the top considering he was a young striker with minimum experiance and I would have thought a club like Real Madrid would have more sense.
He has sinced flopped at Real Madrid and left to PSG a year later for another huge move and he since has not been firing on all cylinders, and Paris Saint-German are dropping down the French League.
He of course has issues and seems to develop homesickness within months of leaving his homeland, while he makes little attempt to settle in and makes no freinds at all.
Peter Reid likes players who would die for the club, get stuck in and obey him, not go to the French Press every Sunday morning. As for Reina, he will certainly develop into a supreme player now he has moved to the Premiership. He spent enough time in Scotland and must develop his skills in a harder league and could in time become a class act, but there is always the chance he will flop after seeming like a good buy at first - a lot like Joe Max Moore, who scored goals early on at Goodison but has declined steadily. A step forward for American football in time for Korea/Japan 2002.
