If we finish third, we will avoid the spanish and italian teams due to seeding.

However, the likes of Celtic and Leverkusen still lurk about - that's a little frightening.

it'll be better if MU have to play those matchs if new players come on board. give em a chance to gel better. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Great. We could meet Leverkusen in the qualifiers.....something to look forward to. Not. :(

yeah but will Leverkusen be the same next year without Ballack and probably Lucio as well?

Don't Germany get 2 teams automatically qualified and one in the 3rd round? That only leaves Bayern ;)

Although I'd be surprised if we won't be paired with them which means we can't play against then.

:)

Actually, we won't get any Spanish, Italian or German clubs due to the country's seedings. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

Nothing to worry about really...

Actually, I'm looking forward to qualifiers AND getting tough phase I group as well.
Just as SAF said that we need tougher opposition in England, we also need the same thing in CL. The last time we did that, we played right after the world cup, right after winning no silverware (sound familiar?)and we won the Treble! We played munich and barca in the same group and drew all four games and beat brondby 6:2 and 5:1 if I remember correctly.
Next season is going to be the best one yet!!!! <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

So, someone explain to me the following:-

If we finish third (which we probably will) we enter the qualifying stages of the CL at the second round stage (or is it third?) How will we be seeded & who will we avoid - if that can be workd out at this stage

But - <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> they're German..... ;)

Leverkusen will be a bit weaker next season IMO.
But we need to do something about our defence. Our forward line is brilliant. The defence is <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

I think we'll be class next year! Treple! TREPLE! Gimme the Treple! :D ;)

We can`t get leverkusen in the qualifiers !!! As second in germany they don`t have to play qualifiers! Only Bayern Munich as third will play qualifiers. But they will be seated in the stronger half of teams (like us) so we can`t meet them either. :) I´m not shure about celtic but I think they should be in the stronger half too.

A list of the teams you could meet in the CL Qualifications...

"WQR2" stands for "Winner of Qualification Round 2" the teams that you see next to it are the favourites to go through from those games...

The numbers next to the club name are their UEFA Coefficients.

Since you are seeded for QR3 you can only meet unseeded teams, which are:

Auxerre (FRA) 32.176
Liberec (CZE) 29.312
WQR2 (evt. Shaktar Donetsk (UKR)) 23.979
K. Racing Club Genk (BEL) 21.762
WQR2 (evt. Brondby (DEN)) 20.688
Tirol Innsbruck (AUT) 20.625
Fenerbahce (TUR) 19.363
WQR2 (evt. MTK Boedap. (HUN)) 18.875
WQR2 (evt. Macabi Haïfa (ISR)) 18.666
WQR2 (evt. Legia Warschau (POL)) 17.750
WQR2 (evt. Lillestrom (NOR)) 15.738
WQR2 (evt. Basel (SUI)) 14.312
WQR2 (evt. Zizkov (CZE)) 14.312
WQR2 (evt. Partizan Belgrado (YUG)) 14.165
WQR2 (evt. NK Zagreb (CRO)) 12.521
WQR2 (evt. Levski Sofia (BUL)) 11.582

I feckin hate the name 'Champions League'

Why should runners up get a chance at it??????

Yeah yeah so we won it as runners up but why should the jocks, as champions, have to qualify??????

In a few years time i'm sure EUFA will hand pick the teams that they want in the comp

thanks for the info, RedMachine
where did get it from, uefa.com ?

The qualifing stages are probably more true champions league than the group stages themselves <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Anyway, looking at those teams, as long as it's no Auxerre (and preferably no Turkey trip to meet Fenerbahce) it's quite alright.

Got it from the website of one of the teams in the list (Genk from Belgium). They have been following the evolution of their possible opponents for some time now.

If you can read in Dutch (which most of you cant, I trust ;) ) you can read all there is to know about the way the qualifying tournament works on <a href="http://www.krcgenk.be" target="_blank">www.krcgenk.be</a>

By the way: they'll kill you ;) as they did with the Arse... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Great. We could meet Leverkusen in the qualifiers.....something to look forward to. Not.

liv , if MU can't get through the "Q" by playin' weaker sides , how do they get to OT in mid - may 2003. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

If we draw Marcabi Haifa ... will it be another Chelsea saga ? ;)

Don't even want to think of the possibility of the team not in the CL next season .. The Final will be at Old Trafford ... what a scenario !! ... and yet if the team is out before it even started ?!? ...

We have only ourselves to blame for ending up like this .. But I have always believed - if you gonna be strong and good - you won't worry abt playing anybody and you gonna just WIN it !! .. Our treble season ... we didn't even lose one game in the whole CL campaign !! ... that ... I call it TRUE champion !

Look at the list somewhere above.

You CANNOT meet Leverkusen as your are both seeded teams. You can only meet one of the teams on the list above.

A list which neither AFC nor LFC will have to worry about then....

It says a lot when a Scouser comes on here telling MU supporters who their likely qualifying round for the CL opponents will be. Thanks for that RM.

I'm just wondering which other teams are lurking out there that aren't favourites. Is it definite that we can't get Celtic? Are there any Dutch teams that we might have to play?

Sorry, I tried to look at the link you gave, but although I thought I could muddle through it, I was totally lost with the Dutch...

red machine it was a reply to the original message from livvie m8. read under that for my reply. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Yes, a CL qualifier is over two legs.

Actually I wouldn't mind playing qualifiers, as it would (hopefully) give the new signing(s) a chance to gel. Plus, the season would start earlier ! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> Would like to see our lads thrash a team like Pool did, because it could provide confince.

So, I wouldn't be too bothered going in thru the back door, as the last time we did that was four years ago, and we all know what happenned then ! ;)
