doesn't signing a contract means a player has full intentions to continue playing for a team?
why would he bring on the wrath of the fans by signing then leaving later?
and his contract wasn't going to be up this summer was it?

1. No it doesn't. It means that he is signing an agreement to (probably) increase his wages to reflect his form over the past few years. He could sign on for 100 years and could be sold the next day if Auxerre and a suitor reached an agreement.
2. Wrath of fans ? <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> . He'd be playing in England, and wouldn't have to see the fans.

More loyal than doing a Macmanammananan and losing your club 15 million

2006 he was free now its 2007

Apples and Oranges. Auxerre are merely positioning themselves for a higher transfer fee. There's no way they can hang on to a player of his calibre, with bigger clubs like us flashing cash in their faces. Same applies to Mexes. They both said they were staying at Auxerre for one more year last year.

There is probably something more meaningful in the new contract such as a wage increase, or some clauses to benefit Auxerre when they enter negotiations with his new club. I wonder if the timing(before the January window) of this contract has any purpose.
Also has anyone heard more of LaRoux's 'alledged' radio interview of this weekend where he said SAF has recently contacted him about Cisse, Mexes, and Kapo- I'd expect such comments would be reported more widely if they are true. So maybe its pure fiction.

Agree, altho i've rarely seen this as i've always thought players will be more reluctant to sign on in order to make the most out of their next move. The player'd get more money nearer the end of their contracts, no? and i think signing on could scare buyers away. For one other clubs now know Auxerre have the upper hand on the negotiating table. Anywho, someone in here the contract extended his stay from 2006 to 2007 so that would barely make a difference i guess.

Can't argue with you there, seeing Ronaldo as an example. Altho if it's his hometown then he will surely have some difficulty dealing with it.
