Cisse - do these other clubs really think...

they stand a chance?

From report on his performance in France U21 "He smiled artfully when informed he had been watched by 12 Premiership clubs. The most realistic suitors were Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. Leeds, Tottenham, Newcastle, Fulham, Southampton, Middlesbrough, Ipswich, Charlton and West Ham were also represented. "

If I were in charge of Ipswich, Charlton and Soton's travel budget I think I'd be furious. Really, money down the drain

Let's just save them money and sign him now

of course not. the article states that the clubs expressly commented they had gone to see him and him alone. i did not paste the whole article to avoid taking too much space.

Spurs linked with £30m Cisse
By Paul Thomson

Tottenham have joined a host of top clubs who are chasing ё30million-rated Auxerre striker Djibril Cisse.
He was watched by 12 English clubs, who included Arsenal, Fulham, Charlton and West Ham, as he scored twice in the first 45 minutes for the French Under-21s in Boulogne last week.

Among those present was Spurs' director of football David Pleat, who said: 'Cisse has got everything. Whatever the price he is on his way.' <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Auxerre manager Guy Roux is reluctant to sell his young star, who has hit 17 goals this season.

But Cisse said: 'If I had a choice I would go to England. The game there suits me. There is a lot of space for forwards and the British mentality and their style of play pleases me.'

Spurs have to sell unsettled ё11m striker Sergei Rebrov before they can make a move in the transfer market

They are also reported to be interested in Sunderland's Kevin Phillips, Bolton's Michael Ricketts and Middlesbrough's Alen Boksic.

I think the only three clubs with a realistic chance of landing Djibril Cisse are United, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Let's be realistic though. The circa 30m tag that Auxerre have placed on him is more of a hands off gesture than anything else. His eventual sale price will probably be around 18-20m imo. Short of that type of figure, I think that he will end up in Italy. United are the only club I can see breaking the bank to sign him, since we will be in the market for another striker, as it looks like it may be curtains for Yorke in the summer. Liverpool could sign him as well, but they will have to weigh the pros and cons of spending at least 18m on Cisse, when they could probably pick up Anelka for roughly 12m. Arsenal could buy him as well, but it looks like they may end up buying Van Bommel, and continue to try and develop Henry/Wiltord. Like I said, short of one of the big three in England, I think he'll end up at Juve.

His personal wish is to play in England, not in Italy. Remember that Henry didn't really do well in Italy (Trezeguet is very different). And only two clubs interest him : Liverpool and Manchester Utd.

He did say that he would SLIGHTLY more prefer to play for poo, but when u think about it, that's what Forlan said about Middlesbourough, until $ came into play <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

That's quite funny, seeing all these big clubs offering millions for this player. Cissé won't be a world-class striker, for sure.
He cannot score with the right foot. He cannot score with the head. And he cannot do anything else than scoring (I've never seen him making a good pass...). He is a poison for defences today, as Anleka a few years ago. But it will not last more than 2 or 3 years. Because he will certainly not be so fast at 25, and everybody will know him. And I think he is too easily injured.

So, Cissé is good, but he will never be a RVN, a Trézéguet, a Henry.

There is another player in Auxerre. His name is Olivier Kapo. He is like Thierry Henry in the middle of the 90's. Better technically, with a good vision of the game. When he will play in a big club, then he will certainly become a top-class forward. And remember that : without Olivier Kapo (and Teemu Tainio) beside him, Djibril Cissé wouldn't be anything on a football ground.

Here is Cissé tonight :

And Kapo in another game against Monaco :

I'm sure you're beginning to love French League, aren't you ? ;)

And I think Cissé will quit Auxerre at the end of the season (except maybe if Auxerre plays Champion's League), for no more than 8 M€.

I think True Treble Reds asked a really good question ... Is Cisse the only strikers worth mentioning in France's U21 team ? .. he must have a partner up-front ... a link man type of forward I suppose ... You can't be possibly having 2 very fast strikers that only score goals and do nothing else ( like John3 said ) ...

And I agree with John3 ... if he has only "1" asset in his left foot and speed, we will have to see ... but I have read before that he's quite good in air as well !?

Cissé is keeping beard, yes <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
