Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the star attraction at Saltergate, and should start upfront alongside Diego Forlan against Chesterfield in John Duncan's testimonial.
Roy Keane, Fabien Barthez, Phil Neville and Laurent Blanc will also play a part in the match as Sir Alex's squad is split in two.
The manager has taken the unprecendented step of arranging two pre-season friendlies for the same day, with the same kick-off time. While the Bournemouth game is Mel Machin's testimonial match, the Chesterfield clash is for the benefit of John Duncan, the manager who took the Spireites to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1996/97.
That Cup run was undoubtedly the high point of their history to date, with the thrilling match against Middlesbrough being played at United's Old Trafford ground.
Kevin Davies was the hero then, and was eventually sold to Southampton for £750,000. Remarkably, his value multiplied almost ten times when he was sold to Blackburn Rovers a year later for £7.5 million.
However, relegation at the end of the 2000/01 season spelled the end for boss Duncan, who had been in charge for 508 League games. The club was put up for sale, and after much financial wrangling - during which the PFA had to pay the players' wages - a supporters group managed to raise enough money to buy 78% of the club.
Since then, administrators have been called in to find a buying partner to CFSS - the supporters group.
While their Cup run was exhilirating for all concerned, off-field events have overshadowed the football in recent times. Hopefully the match against United - so eagerly awaited that two Chesterfield fans camped outside the leisure centre selling tickets to ensure they got theirs - will start a happier season for the Spireites.
