Muralitharan has been banned from using his chuck or doosra delivery. He has also gone all pouty (because the Aussie PM has made some mild comment) and refused to tour Australia.

It is allegedly nothing to do with the fact that he is crap unless he is allowed to cheat. It is also allegedly not because he would be called left right and centre now that what we have all known for years has been confirmed.

Every wicket he ever took through cheating should be recinded leaving the records to true sportmen with talent.

And Shane Warne.

The Sri Lankans are going to appeal on the well thought out legal grounds that they don't like it and that if they don't get their own way they are going to scweem and scweem until they are sick. Or something like that.

Although they have some pretty convincing evidence that he doesn't bend his arm during delivery

I wonder when Daryl Haire is going to get an apology for the way he was treated after he quite rightly (and repeatedly) called the cheating chucker for his illegal action.

Not any time soon would be my guess.

Its gone on too long. One way or another, the ICC should have made a decision and stuck with it.

hes going to break all the bowling records that exist and probabily go on to be known as the greatest...but not in my opinion... i cant believe hes actually come this far without being banned... he clearly bends the rules of the game..and its disgraceful that hes been allowed to continue....
In all honestly...hes not the only one...most spinners bend the arm abit for the straighter delivery....shoaib does it for his quicker delivery...BUT murlis is a different case... his action is all wrong...his arm bends comletely and straightens when he delivers the ball...hows that not chucking?

ALL bowlers straighten their arm. I think it's impossible not to. The reason why it's been highlighted over the last few years is mainly down to the amount of camera's at games these days.

That said, Murali gets away with murder. I think fast bowlers are allowed to bend their arm 5 degrees. Spinners a tad more. Forgot the exact details, but it was in an article I posted here.

If I remember correctly the allowance for spinners is 5 degrees and his chuck came in at 15 degrees.

Should have banned him years ago but the authorities were totally gutless.

on one hand you have wasim akram and glen mcgrath who iv never seen bend their arm during the action.... whereas murli's arm is bent throughout his action...it straightens in the end.... fecking hell...unfair to ppl like akram, kumble and co. who never bent the laws of the game..

He might still tour Australia. I would like that a great deal. If he gets all pouty at a single comment he will enjoy his reception here from crowd and players alike. :)

Best of all would be if he bowled his chuck and was repeatedly called during a test.

For those who don't think he is a cheating chucker how come remedial action reduced his arm bend from 14/15 degrees to 10.2 degrees (5 degrees is legal)? If it was a deformity he wouldn't be able to inprove would he?

well today reports say he is gonna opt out .

also i am one of those who thinks he does chucks but is being treated unfairly, i have been watching cricket for along time and i remembber noticing him first in 96 WC , after watching him for 1-2 matches , i could say he was throwing, but feckin ICC remained blind for so many years, . only when he became a succcessful bowler, ICC opened their eyes.
that the case with many other bowlers , many low profile bowler get off while clearly chucking, i mean anybody who has watched afridi bowl his faster delivery could tell he is throwing.
also the reason why i think he is being treated unfairly is according to me many other top bowlers in the world throw too. for me brett lee throw while bowling his yorker or bouncer, akhtar throws a lot, when they are called upon by ICC , and when trainer spots the flaw in action they correct it then , but later resort to the old action again . if murali was tested for some degree test, all the bowlers should be tested too, one set for all to identify the throwers.

No bowler chucks the ball the amount he does. Yes, most bowlers do throw at times.......I think it's impossible not to. However, he takes the piss. I think he bends his arm over 15 degrees. Which is 5 more than is permitted for a spinner. Fast bowlers are allowed a 5 degree leeway.

He's got 600 odd wickets by chucking the ball.

Spinners are allowed 5 degrees, fast bowlers 10 degrees and he managed to reduce his chuck from 15 degrees to 10.2 degrees under remedial coaching (which will be forgotten 5 minutes later). He is simply a cheat and should be banned frrom the game and his wickets recinded.

Daryl Haire had it right all those years ago and got crucified for taking the stand he did.

Not a big cricket fan, but can anyone explain to me what he is doing wrong?
How can he be a record holder if he has been doing something illegal for so long?

It's a good question. He has a slight deformity in his elbow that prevents him fully straightening his arm. However this is bullshit because the measure isn't of how bent your arm is but of how much you straighten it as part of your action.

If Shane Warne had been cheating so blatantly it would have been dealt with immediately. Mainly because Sri Lanka threw their toys out of the pram every time the issue was raised and the ICC chickened out because they were afraid of the race issue.

Why? After all he is and a cheat to boot.

Similar to Tony Blair calling the all blacks dirty. The head of state should be above such things. Howard comes across as small time.

Blair called all Blacks dirty? Never heard that one. Anyway, that statement is both an untrue generalisation and racist to boot wheras calling the cheat a chucker is specifically true.

And Howard specialises in small time. It matches his mind.

He didn't. Just making an example that prime ministers etc don't usually get embroilled in sporting controversies.

Noticed that. politically incorrect as they come.

He is a throwback to the 1950's and the all white Australia "policy".

I'm just waiting for him to release a statement to the effect of finishing the job re: the Abo's
