pires is a cheat
Just like playing semi-finals and play-off matches at Wembley were wrong and cheapened the place, easy silverware is also wrong. Liverpool had a laughably easy tournament last season and perish the thought but does anyone doubt that they were grateful for the reduction in fixture congestion that this years early exit provides

Competitions like the full-members cup, the super cup and the Anglo Italian cup have fallen by the wayside. The league cup is evolving with addition of non-league clubs but its time is past. The Worthless cup, the Mickey Mouse cup call it what you will the league cup is out of credibility and should radically reshaped or laid to rest.

thats why we take the piss

The Worthington Cup is worthless?

Why? because beating all the rest of England is not worth the effort?

The larger clubs that are demeaning this cup are basically just wanking on the the lower division clubs who do not see this as a worthless cup. If Scunthorpe Utd won this cup would it be worthless? No, cos they have beaten the best.

The FA Cup, one of the greatest competitions in the world, has already been shit on by Scum PLC. Why? Its all because of money, if its not worth the money its a worthless cup.

Its one of the depressing states of todays football its all about money not football.

It depends what it is made of. I mean, if it's pure silver, then they can give it to me, I'm a bit short of cash!

So you are saying all competition in England is shit and worthless?

when there was only 2 or 3 teams that used to get into europe and when no clubs could get into europe because of a certain scum club the trophy was something for clubs to try in, ie liverpool won it a lot and not many people took the piss then.

however with nearly half the fecking league playing in europe these days there is no room for that cup any more for the top clubs

that is why it is now the worthless cup.

So at which point did it become a worthless cup?

About the time that certain clubs started to field weakened teams due to it not being worth the money/hassle?

The fact is we beat decent teams on the way to the winning the cup.

In truth, the only cup of real merit you won last year was the FA Cup, and I congratulate you for that because I wish that we had won it.

What did you win last year?
Hard to remember.....oh yeah premier league was it? Hmm....isnt that the same teams that were in the FA Cup and Worthington Cup.......except less teams.........fkin plastic trophy that isnt it.

Look, don't get your knickers in a twist! The PL is the most important title to win in England because it shows who is the best team over a whole season. A knockout cup shows who was the best on the day, and the knockout called the Worthington Cup is thought by most as being nothing more than a training ground for young talent. Are you telling me that Grimsby are a better team that The Poo? Don't make me laugh - now that you are in the CL you couldn't give a shit about winning the WC, because to win it would mean putting out strong teams, and that wouldn't suit your CL ambitions: Too many games!

Got it yet?

And you're clueless too if you think the FA Cup is for reserve teams.

Go check our team out for the Grimsby game and you'll see it was hardly a "reserve" team we put out. Whilst we rested a couple of players, there's no way that we'd treat the tournament with the same disdain that you lot do.

That's because you've won it so many times in the past that you think it's important. If you had a choice though, would you rather have an FAC or a WC? We don't look at it as important because it is too much of a distraction from more important titles, especially the CL. You really think that we could play you in the league with a full team on Sunday and then put out a full team the next day in the WC against the Arse?

i think ill hold you on that next year, the more successful you become the less important the worthless cup becomes.

Those who knows their football will know that historically, the Worthless Cup was only taken really seriously for about a decade and a bit, between the end of 70's to the beginning of the 90's.

It was started in the 60's, and none of the bigger teams took it seriously then, which is reflected in some of the winners and finalists, e.g. Swindon won it when they were a 4th div side.

Teams started to take it seriously in the late 70's when the winner was awarded with a Uefa cup spot, and the the Scousers got us kicked out of Europe in the mid 80's so the bigger team didn't have Europe to focus on, hence could put out good teams in the Worthless. Since the early 90's the Worthless have had less and less importance.

a lot of it is and to win something glorious

now i dont know about you but watching fowler at cardiff with that trophy he seemed a little embarassed to me.

Its not about football with Man Utd, its about money.

Any team in England would be proud to win any of the cups, basically having beaten the rest of England. But clubs who put out a reserve team or just dont give the rest of English teams some respect are just scum. Would it have been worthless to Birmingham if they had won, I dont think so.

Arrogance?

Chip, where the fk did this attitude come from. Why do you feel the need to degenerate into abuse you cnut.

Majority of clubs in England would love to win the Worthington Cup. Just cos Mancs belittle it doesnt mean everyone has to.

so if man utd are only interested in money i like it

its given us

1. the best stadium
2. 7 premier league trophys
3. 3 doubles
4. 1 treble
5. and they have spent a fecking lot of money to achieve all that.

Give it a rest will you. Man United, the big bad demon.....

If Liverpool took it so seriously, why didn't you put out the best possible team Vs Grimsby?

Who was the one who suggested we are scum....?

Im not denying Utd have been successful with this money grabbing policy. Im just saying the Worthington Cup is not a worthless competition to the majority of English teams.

Im sorry i thought Utd's nickname was Scum, I didnt mean it as abuse. Have to pick up what you can when you are a foreign fan.

Please explain to me why and how Man United have a more money grabbing policy than any of our rivals?

Its not just Utd, its the majority of Premier League teams to a greater or lesser extent.
Manchester PLC have just been the forerunners in recent years.

You think pulling out of the FA Cup was a footballing exercise ?

So, what you're saying is that most PL teams have a money grabbing policy?

Pulling outof the FA Cup was clearly not a footballing exercise. There were a number of reasons why it happened. And I'm sure other clubs would have done the same in that unfortunate situation that we were put in.

the big question is how many fans thought the game was important enought to bother attending
