Charlie Savage (out)

He was in contract for another year so not sure if we’ve paid him off or come to a mutual agreement or what

Lovely message. Not up to the required quality but his commitment and love for the club are beyond question. Hope he does well wherever he lands.

Finally we are adding in clauses to match future bids. What if he becomes an absolute star in a couple of years, however unlikely I know. Whilst a buy-back clause would be better, its a start.

Don’t we also have the option to match bids on every other player in the world? Once we hear a player is moving all it takes is a call saying “we’ll match whatever you’re getting” and it’s the exact same thing isn’t it?

No, if Spurs accept £100m from Bayern for Kane, they wont accept the same from us, this condition ensures that

United have a long history of not asking for fees for such players instead helping them get moves and remain in the game.

Something we should be proud of tbh
Yeah not like Liverpool demanding £20m for players like Jordan Ibe and Solanke.

Good deal that. The player gets regular playing time, Reading gets a good investment , and we make sure we either profit or can pick him up for a decent fee if he were to really step it up.

All the best Charlie, one of the bright spots in last seasons pre-season.

Exactly, so many players have come through the academy and have decent careers.

Always good to see them do well, apart from when Peter Beardsley ended up winning stuff with the dippers.

I believe it basically means once a club agrees a fee to buy him we can match it and Reading then can't accept any higher bids after that.

Good luck to him. He and Iqbal will always have that special night to look back on and I hope have successful futures ahead.

Not prioritise but if they accept a bid, we are able to match it and it's automatically accepted
Ok that’s a handy thing to have, in fairness. I assumed it was like those first refusal clauses which aren’t really worth the paper they’re written on.

Nor is this really unless it's a direct rival as majority of teams wouldn't reject a bid from us if it matched identically a bid they received elsewhere, only the City, Arsenal, Spurs, Pool, Leeds etc may refuse, I don't see why the rest would care but at least it's something! I like the sell on %, think that's smart

Beardsley came through Newcastle’s academy, not ours.

United signed him from Carlisle, played him once and quickly sold him back to Newcastle. It was all very odd.

He will do well with a lower league club. Doubt he will be good enough to be a premier league regular but you never know. Hence the buyback clause. All the very best Charlie
