It's probably been talked over and over again, but here's my two pennies worth:

With Sir Alex staying on, I don't think the changes will be that many as if a new guy had come in. Which IMO can only be for the good, as I think we have the making of a great squad now - possible better than ever before.

There are a few issues though. Irwin, Johnsen and Blanc are all out of contract and will probably be leaving. That leaves us with only 4-5 more or less established defenders. At least 2 new in, possible 3 even.

I would love Yorke to prove all his doubters wrong and return to form. I can't see it happing though, and reckon he will leave in the summer. Meaning we will be buying another striker, most probably.

Barring any other departures, the goalkeeper and midfield areas are well covered, so basically I reckon we will at least buy two new defenders and another striker.

Next year's core squad:

Keepers
Barthez
Carroll

Defenders
Gary Neville
Phil Neville
Silvestre
Brown
O'Shea
AN Other
AN Other

Midfielders
Beckham
Keane
Butt
Scholes
Veron
Giggs

Strikers
van Nostelrooy
Solskjaer
Forlan
AN Other

I reckon, based upon only reading about them, Mexes and Cisse will be main targets.

Having seen Hofland for Holland a couple of times, he has impressed me. I also think he will be the first summer signing.

IMO Chances to be signed

Hofland 90%
Cisse 50%
Mexes 60%

Of course, this is all subjective nonsense from me but it passed a few minutes.
:D

Read a web site today and it said Cisse current football club ask for 30mil for him. If it is true there is no chance for us to get him of course.

Never seen Mexes or Cisse (do we want a player with a name like that? ;) ), but Hofland looks like very decent player.

Who would pay that money for a non-international who is totally unproven outside of France?

I doubt it....Auxerre's manager believes strongly that money should not run football...ther is no way that they'd set a price tag of 30m on him...20 at the peak is what i'd say

He did, Liverpool made a £15m bid, and Roux asked for double the money (although i think he's trying to scare clubs away from Cisse), at the end of the day whatever his belief he's going to want to get as much money as he can for his players

Cisse and Mexes to United in the summer. The prospects of winning major trophies will make it a no brainer for them. :D

I read the paper a few days ago said The Board is planning to give Fergie £30m for summer transfers.
It said Horland and Ayala are the main targets. Also mentioned Numo Gomes and Cisse.
I think there is a very good chance that Hofland will come to OT and he will be very welcome to.
Not sure about Ayala...do we need so many central defenders? A left back is what we need since Irwin is going to retire. (here i recommand SAF take a look at Sun Jihai of China)
Numo Gomes would be good for us.
So expect to see some new faces and big names in the summer. :D

So many players linked to United, how many are true United quality is another question, then there is also the question of how well they would fit in the team. We can afford to chose carefully, go for players that have the technique to play the open, fast, passing game that we're known for. And where possible, players closer to home.
I would have no reservations about Cisse, Mexes, Steven Carr, or Anthony Reveillier(RB Rennes).
I hope we can continue to bring youngsters through, and continue to hold the choice english players(and pay the inflated prices if neccessary).
If we add another good CB, we'd have Newboy, O'Shea, Ronny, Blanc(maybe), BrownRB/CB, and Gaz, Phiz and Mickey as full backs.
I'd like to see a good #2 striker come in, someone closer to RVN in quality, its time to let Yorkie go. And I'm not convinced by Veron, I'd trade him for Davids if I could, better suited in temperment and style to United, or given the 28m I'd much rather put it towards Mexes/Cisse.

Boy, I just can't wait for the day Seba starts producing the goods and shuts up all the faithless people who are 'not convinced' by him.

Thank god none of you can become the manager of Man United as the position is filled for a few more years!

Its not really Verons fault......

He came into a midfield that was already a proven force.....

He showed good signs at the start of the season, some of his skill on the ball was 2nd to none, but - judging on the amount we paid for him, he hasnt proven his worth yet, he hasnt even proved half his cost......

And all these rumours of him and Lazio are doing his cause no justice.....

I can see SAF holding onto him until after the WC - if Argentina do well, SAF can cash in and get more than we paid, if he doesnt shine...... well be lucky to get our money back!

We aren't interested in getting our money back, at the moment anyway. If Veron doesn't produce the goods next season, ok. But now is just too early.

I think the fans need to embrace Veron, support him and he will give it back tenfold - we loved Eric and we all saw how he performed.

We need to show Veron that we care. Some players need that support.

i think we should cash him on beckham and veron. David would fetch 40+ and veron 30+, imagine having 70mil+ to spend

hopefully they both will have great world cups :)
